Greetings,
I am 8 months post op virgin ds.
I have a question regarding getting lab work done for my wife.
Here is the jist: My wife has been very tired lately and has been sleeping 10-12hrs a night. She's had a continuous headache and is having moments of brain fog and just plain old being run down all the time. I don't know if this means anything but her gallbladder is bad, but wants to wait til her wls to have it removed.
Being that lab work is now a huge part of my life, I can't help but think she is having iron issues.
We have an appt. with her pcp to discuss the matter and she has asked me to come along and urge the doctor to run as many tests as possible even if the doctor doesn't think they are necessary. I have no problems with this and if he won't do it then I'll find someone who will.
I want to go into the appt. with guns blazing and be prepared to demand what I want. What should I ask for in regards for bloodwork for my wife?
Again my wife does not have a ds, I just figured alot of you have great experience with labs and there wouldn't be a better place to ask.
Thank you

I think you need to go see her doctor and see what the doctors says and what the doctor recommends and what the doctors tests. Then see what next steps are. There are just too many things that could be affecting her and you need a doctor's input first and foremost. I would not start second guessing her doctor until you let the doctor do what needs to be done, and then you'll see. I can't imagine they won't run iron panels to cheek for anemila. My whole life, even before my DS, my routine bloodwork always included an iron panel. It's normal for women to have that done.

Iron is a no brainer on this one. I can't remember if they usually do Ferritin but you may want to make sure they add that. I seem to remember it's not part of my PCP's normal iron labs. I can't think of anything else blood work wise.
Maybe he can test her Oxygen utilization and possibly set up a test for sleep apnea - that might be a real possibility.
I hope she feels better soon.

I would also make sure they test her thyroid.

The top things I think of are iron issues (anemia), thyroid issues and depression.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Saw her doctor a few days ago he took all the necessary bloodwork and we shall see what it says.
This may be a dumb question...is thyroid tested thru bloodwork?
She does suffer from depression for which she has been on medication. She doesn't feel like its that as she says it's "different" this time.
But i'll make sure we cover all bases...Thanks again!

Yes, Mickens, thyroid sure is tested through bloodwork. I now see an endrocrinologist for my thyroid issues. Free TY and TSH are the labwork tests used.
