Hi, I wanted to let you know I heard from Lisa and wanted to share with you her latest. She has had a setback, by actually developing an infection from her PICC line (for her nutrition) that was so severe it went septic. She's been in the hospital a couple of weeks, and will be for awhile longer, near her home in southern California, not up here with Dr. K. I don't have any other news on her re: her situation with NASH, seeing the liver specialist, but this certainly is a blow in her recovery. She's had more than her share, I just hope she can get past all this once and for all. I think someone else asked about Diane/deedee484, and I have not heard from her in awhile, left a message but have not heard back. I so hope she is making continued progress, she finally got diagnosed with the infection and the leak at Cleveland Clinic, Progress was slow but moving forward last time we communicated. Finally coming unplugged from the painful drains, and everything, adding more activity. Her one year is coming up in December for her revision from the old VGB to the DS; and so hope she can put this behind her too. Dawn who is struggling with leaks from what sounds like a very bungled conversion in what was supposed to a first-step DS sleeve from her RNY, and now Scott/illinisds2 with the Petersens hernia. Hopefully we hear from Maggiesara too, an update on her giant hernia and related issues. Overall, the percentage of complications during surgery and the first year are low compared to the successes; revisions can have a higher complication rate. For newbie post-ops and pre-ops, no one wants to 'scare you' away from surgery, but it is good to know the big picture and possibilities, be informed on all fronts Here's wishing, sending light - whatever you do, prayers, swinging critters, etc - to everyone for full recoveries!

This is devastating news about our Lisa. I hope that everyone else will have better news to share.
Looking in from the outside, I can see where someone considering WLS might only see the weight loss, not the significant weight of the changes we make and the risks we take in having the surgery. I wouldn't want to scare anyone away who needs the DS -- I clearly was not going to live much longer without it. However, it is good to let people know this is not the "easy" way that many people think it is.
My prayers for full recoveries for all our ailing members.

Please encourage her to speak to a liver specialist while she is there. Some of her symptoms could be connected to the NASH diagnosis.

Thank you so much, Sharyl, for the updates on Scott, Maggiesara, and Lisa. What a lot Lisa is going through! I'm so glad that Dr. Keshishian is involved now. Really appreciate being kept up to date. Hugs to all of you!

Oops, part of my update got moved too, but that's ok, thanks goodkel for doing this! Newest update as of Friday, Oct 3 - Lisa is now here in LA/Glendale at Verdugo Hospital. Dr. Keshishian is very concerned that her symptoms - the one's NYB is referring to - aren't going away since her emergency surgery several months ago; besides the nasty septic infection she got from the PICC line. He told her to please come here instead, she was in San Diego, three hours away. She was admitted late last night, and Dr. K came by to see her at 2:30am! I hope to see her tomorrow morning, she had rescheduled her liver specialist appt long before this new infection hit, but I don't know if she made it her not. I am definitely trying to encourage her, she has some guilt/anxiety over trying to work on it all via non-surgical/other intervention means and maybe prolonging the process. It's a lot for her to reconcile, but I'll know more tomorrow if she's up for a visit.

Hi everyone, I will be somewhat MIA here until Oct 20, traveling. But I wanted to let you know I saw Lisa for a visit before I left LA. And, although she is going through an ordeal with this infection from her PICC line, she HAS put on weight since her emergency surgery and NASH diagnosis. So she looks great. She is scheduled to see her liver specialist on Nov 2, who is in San Diego, but now she is up in LA/Glendale, so she was going to look into possibility of finding someone closer she might be able to see sooner, since she's not sure how long she will be there. Possibility of another surgery only way to see what's going on in there, but still not sure yet. She knows you are all asking about her and sending healing vibes and she wants you to know it means a LOT to her!

Thank you all for the updates. I am so behind as work/life/etc have been so hectic I'm not on here as much but I have been wondering and worrying about Lisa and Diana. It seems so many are having issues lately. I am sending up prayers for a speedy and thorough recovery to all who are going through issues right now.
A quick update on my progress...I just had my year anniversary on Halloween and I am down 135 pounds. I am loving ONEderland and thus far I have had zero complications or issues with my SADI. I scroll through here from time to time and see so many who are dealing with issues and I am so thankful that I have been so fortunate with my own journey so far.
Please know that you all are in my thoughts, even when I don't have the frequent posts on here to prove it.

Sharyl: Thank you for the updates. My prayers are with everyone! I hope Diane, Dawn and Scott have quick recoveries and hopefully will not have to deal with complications anymore. I know the leaks scared the hell out of me and as much as I hated the drains after surgery and at home - I needed them. I would rather have a surgeon take extra precautions to be sure. Safe travels Sharyl. When you are on the East Coast - let us know.

The procedure was lap and quick once it finally happened and other than having an extremely low pulse (high 30's) and blook pressure (70/35) for much of the night after surgery, my recovery has been pretty painless and smooth. I have some blood work issues now but those are getting addressed and hopefully rectified soon. BTW I see Lisa on fb often and we last chatted around the time I was in the hospital. She is trying to get her strength up but is keeping a great attitude. She is is such a nice person who has a lot of inner strength and she is a great mom who has a son who loves her very much and he means the world to her. I am confident she is going to continue to get better, adjust and live life with her wonderful zeal. Thanks again for your concorn for everyone but shift your concern for me and positive mojo to these other lovely ladies who need it more (not having heard from Diane in a while I worry about her)
