Has anyone heard from her lately? I've been wondering how she's doing since that big surgery she had. I knew she had a lot going on in her life, but I hadn't "heard" from her in a while. If you're there, Songbird, give a shout out!

Unless I did the search function incorrectly, I believe her last post shows as July 29!

I did a little searching. She had a video blog on youtube. The last video was posted on July 18 after she came home from the hospital.

I checked her profile and she was last online yesterday at 11:47 am.
So at least she is lurking.
I sent her a message a minute ago.

She's active on the Facebook groups If you see her, please tell her we were asking about her. I removed myself from all the wls related Facebook groups or I would do it myself. She was in a precarious place in her life while she was recovering from a serious surgery when she just fell off the radar. I hope she's in a good place now, medically and personally.

I'm still here . Haven't returned to work yet due to pooping 5-8 times a day at a moments notice. I saw the surgeon recently and he said I need to gain 15lbs which is harder than it sounds! Sleeping hurts but there's not much I can do about it. Finances are rough right now from me not working as well so my vites are limited but I'm finally getting protein and fluids in.

You'll get yourself in to much more trouble if you don't keep up your vitamins.
Why can't you poop at work?
What are you eating?

I'm cutting out dairy to see if that is the culprit. The job I have I can't get up and go at a moments notice and I only get one ten minute break every 4 hour period which isn't enough time. I got a warning before for being a minute late on break because I tried to rush a poop. Another time I had an accident in my pants at work when a manager refused me to use the restroom and had me help more customers instead. And that was before I had the urgency issues now. No warning. I'll be fine then it's like poop is coming and I can't stop it.
The pain is lower back and right lower abdomen where the drain site was. The dr said he thinks I'm just slow healing but if I'm too worried we can try a ct but he doesn't think it will show anything. I wake up several times in horrible pain and some times have to wake husband up to roll me up so I can go downstairs to sleep sitting up in the recliner
I'm applying for paperwork/non customer contact jobs at the moment due to the poop issues in hopes I can get up if I need to. I even had to take a break from school.

Food right now is protein shakes chicken and protein bars . Since this happened it is so hard to gain weight . I added more carbs, even went extreme to the 200-300g range and lost weight.

The carbs may be the culprit, and dairy.
You should cut all carbs and dairy and focus only on protein and cooked vegetables and see how that goes for a week.
Are you getting 100g of protein in every day?

Songbird, I am so sorry that you're going through this! I can't imagine dealing with such uncontrollable loose bowels while working...you poor thing. I did want to share my experience, because it sounds similar (aside from the pooping part - I deal with constipation!) I just had a laparotomy on 8/20 because of severe pain in my lower right side. I don't want to alarm you, but you shouldn't pass it off as nothing. In my case, I had adhesions that were tugging my small intestines in opposite directions - and had to have a bowel resection that same day. It did NOT show up on a CT. My pain was intense like yours, doubled me over so I couldn't stand up straight at times - thought it was appendicitis. Anyway, adhesions are like glue - stringy strands of tissue that can really cause pain, if they tug on your insides. Now, your situation may be totally different, but I wanted to share my story...just in case. Please keep in touch with us when you get a chance, okay?

Definitely all those carbs could be causing your pooping issue.
Why do you need to gain weight?
If there is a true cause for alarm, the only healthy way to do that is to have him prescribe you Creon, an enzyme that will cause you to absorb more of what you eat.
I am so sorry that you are having such a tough time. Some day you will be past all of this and everything will be better.

Well I lost 20lbs in the hospital and if I low carb it I lose 2 lbs a day. The dr said add more carbs to gain and if it's still a problem then he'll add the enzyme . The reason he didn't this time was because I was maintaining fine beforehand .
There were days where I slept most the day and didn't get but half a shake in all day and still pooped that much, waking up at night to poop. I still wake up at night but thankfully I can get protein in now.
Adhesions caused my bowel obstruction and the hospital ordered ct without contrast and left me there a few days before sending me to a surgeon. Always get one with contrast

Both times I have been in the hospital since my DS, I have lost a lot of weight.
Don't worry about it. If you weren't having problems before, the weight will come back. Eat the way you were when you were maintaining before your obstruction and you will begin to gain. It won't happen overnight, but slowly and surely.
Stop with the carbs. They are doing you no favors and are obviously not helping.
Even the best cutters can't tell sh*t from shinola about what works for us beyond the initial DS healing days.
Yes, you are a textbook case why everyone must INSIST on a CT with contrast any time they enter the ER with intense abdominal pain. If they absolutely refuse or ignore your demand, go to another hospital. Don't wait.

Have you tried eating some complex carbs, but staying away from simple carbs? Are you eating any fruit?

Haven't tried fruit but did try complex carbs and still lost. I will try just doing what I did before.
My problem was I thought it was just gas and was so high from the pain meds they gave me I didn't know what day it was and at the time didn't know what to ask for. Even when they transferred me they didn't let Rabkin know I was there and really didn't know why I was there . Luckily I had my phone and was less loopy and had someone who could help. I hope others can learn from my mistake so it doesn't happen to them but if it does they know what to ask for.

First try eliminating the dairy products. Also there is a pill that some people swear by. It's called Lactose and they take it before eating any dairy. It is supposed to do wonderful things. It's OTC.
Besides the pain you need to get checked out with an endoscopy and a colonoscopy. I had both and found out I have colitis really bad. I swear I was running, not walking to the bathroom. My stools were extremely loose. I've walked out of the local grocery with a full cart several times with poop in my pants...I'm talking a load. It ain't no fun...no way. I feel for you and I want to see you get well. The gastro first put me on steroids...I gained weight with those pills but they were necessary - now I'm on a pill called Lialda and it works like a dream. No steroids. Don't leave any stone unturned until you find out what's wrong. What you are going through isn't normal by any stretch.
Oh yeah, drop the carbs. They can also cause loose stools and multiple ones...go with the complex ones - fruit and veggies. I assume you are eating animal protein...be sure to do that. You must up your protein levels.
One last thought...have you tried eggs proteins? Some people are allergic to the whey which is from dairy and if you do have a dairy allergy, then you need to switch protein sources.
It really is a trial and error sort of dance we do until we find our niche. I'm so sorry you have had to have the resection surgery and are still having pains. Not fun for anybody. If all else fails then get the Creon. I'm not sure about the pain. I didn't have any to speak of, so I'm not much help with that. Perhaps you are slow healing, I really don't know. Maybe somebody here can help with that.
Hang in there honey, at some point it will be determined what is wrong and then you will be happy and well. Try to look at it with a brighter attitude. I know how hard that is. I'm not kidding when I say I struggled with the colitis for months...and thought I was going to have to have my bowels put back the way they were. I was that desperate. So i really understand.

The pill is called lactaid, that's the brand name. It's lactase. Lactase is the enzyme that breaks down lactose of which many DSers are intolerant.
