I'm sitting at a birthday party for 7 yr olds, my daughters BFF. I always worry about eating around people who know I've lost weight but who don't personally know me. I'm happy to report I ate a hot dog (minus the bun) with lots of cheese and chili. I'm about 13 months out and had lots of issues with my revision to DS but these last few months I'm really starting to enjoy life again and enjoy eating again, something I wasn't sure would happen. Instead of hiding in the shadows eating I'm sitting with the rest of the parents and in shorts no less! Just very thankful for my life now and trying to enjoy every moment.
This time last year I thought I was gonna die and never make it. Everyone kept telling me hold on, just wait till next year. For all of you struggling or just wondering if you did the right thing... Hold on, it does get better!

Oh you will! Only positive thought! Of course I know that's much easier said than done! But thing do get better, as Dr A would tell me just wait a year from now.

Haylay - so glad you're doing so much better and have finally started enjoying life again. And for sharing this post so others can see that things do take time and it usually works out in the end.

Yes it does, just have to be patient. As always it's a marathon not a sprint!

Hayley, so good to hear from you and SO glad! I loved this: Instead of hiding in the shadows eating I'm sitting with the rest of the parents and in shorts no less! Just very thankful for my life now and trying to enjoy every moment I still can't wear shorts, or I'll scare the children but I too feel so comfortable at picnics now, enjoying eating, and making normal eating/indulging jokes along with everyone else. Normal is a beautiful place to be. Thank you for sharing this, you'll never know too how many others you helped by doing so!

Oh and I may not be pretty in shorts but I'm in Texas and it's hot. Bare from knee down is awesome lol even with loose skin. I hide it well!
I do have a repeat hernia and hope to get a tummy tuck when I get it fixed if my ins will approve! That's my next battle, But for now I'm just gonna enjoy my summer.

Yep, I've learned all kinds of tricks too! I wear a lot of dresses now since I live in southern California, its hot here, though we get a nice cool down at night and I don't live in the total desert. And have gradually moved from the maxi dresses to just knee or below it I'm just going through repeat hernia experience too, my third one, and just about to post my update in terms of insurance and what I'm dealing with, since I need abdominal work to ensure the hernias don't come back, maybe it will help you too. My tummy tuck got kicked out by my DS surgeons office (also doing the hernia) but now I've seen an abdominal reconstruction specialist, and this time it went through!

Congrats and I will for sure take notes. I've not seen the ps DR my Dr recommended yet but will be soon. When I called my ins to ask about it they wanted to know diagnosis and codes to tell me if covered. We have BCBS. They did not cover my DS revision but did cover all the issues I had after.
