I'm three days pre-op and had some crazy dreams last night. This morning when I told my husband about them he said, "Well Honey, you know in the Hermie the Caterpillar book, he had weird dreams right before he turned into a butterfly." What a wonderful man I have! Not only does this show how he takes the time to read to our little ones but also what a sweet supporter he is.

Hi all, this is Derek, Misty's husband. They just wheeled her out to the OR. We really appreciate all your prayers for her and her surgeon and medical team! Will update when she comes out.

Update: Derek here again. Surgery took about 4 hrs. Talked to the surgeon right after who said that it went really well. She was in the PACU another 3 hrs or so before she got a room. Seems to be doing well, considering, and she said that other than nausea which is normal for her and surgery she's doing good. Still a bit groggy and currently sleeping. The next update will likely come from her. Thanks again to all for your well wishes and prayers!

I'm home! Actually I came home yesterday. Please overlook any foggy vision misspells.
Progress is nice and steady. I have an OnQ pump to help manage pain that Dr Elariny will remove in a few days. He sent me home with a liquid pain med (Roxicet) and sublingual Zofran. He wrote a prescription for Prevacid 30mg but our insurance wouldn't pay so instead I'm taking 2 of the over the counter 15mg tabs to equal the prescription.
I was quite tickled to raise up from a lying position on my own his afternoon (no husband or son assistance). This evening, I've laid on my side with little discomfort.
My intake is good and tomorrow I'm allowed to progress to full liquid. The only problem I'm having is after I swallow a few seconds later I get a feeling in my chest like what ever I just drank is getting stopped or backed up which causes significant discomfort but after a few seconds I feel like something releases and then I feel the liquid move and the discomfort is gone.
I keep getting the hiccups which causes nausea if I hiccup 3 or more times. I really am feeling good considering. Dr Elariny was great to me before surgery and during his rounds. My PACU nurse was fantastic along with the team taking care of me once I was put in a room.
Okay, focus is waning, I'll write more later. Thank you all for the prayers.

Misty, I am glad you're home and doing well. Your new stomach is very sensitive. Take tiny sips and get lots of rest in between.

I'm coming to the end of day 6 post op and everything seems to be progressing nicely. I pulled my OnQ pump today just as Dr. Elariny and I had discussed. I really think that the pain pump has made a world of difference in my comfort. I believe it gave me early freedom to sleep in better positions. My incisions appear to be in great shape. I'm getting in my fluids (1 ounce every 10 minutes is my top speed) my protein has been a little harder but am making it to 30. Tomorrow my vits get upped but I haven't had a problem with the ones I've been taking so I'm hopeful. As others have warned, my tastes have changed and my go to preop Unjury chicken broth does not set well with me at all, it has become just nasty! We continue to get creative, we being my sweet husband, and have found ways to get the protein in. He did have a failed attempt of a jello with 10 grams protein per 1 ounce square but he named it heinous jello and threw it out. Showers equal naps, long naps! Naps cause me to have to really push the fluids because they set me behind, focus on fluids leaves me later playing catch up on protein but since my schedule is kinda wacky right now, it's doable. I'll see Dr. Elariny on Wednesday for my 1 week follow-up.
Today my daughter said she thought my feet and hands looked skinnier and asked to pull some measurements, I agreed even though I wasn't really feeling it. I figured, if it makes her feel involved then hey I can play along. She measured my calf, ankle, wrist, arm and neck. All are down 1/2 inch with my neck being down 1 inch. Just a fun little moment.
I really would like to thank all of you for the words you put on these boards, they really have helped me beyond measure.

Yes, what is it with things tasting nasty after surgery? I don't know what causes that. It's probably a blessing, though, as it has made it easy to turn my nose up at things that might otherwise be a temptation.
I'm really happy that you are doing so well, Misty.

Last night I had two terribly long bouts of hiccups. They made my insides hurt something fierce. I have residual discomfort this morning. What the heck caused them? Any suggestions on keeping them away or ways to end them? Hiccups are mean this early out!

:oOuch! Yow! I don't know what caused them, but I'll bet they did hurt. Maybe you drank too much too fast? Are you taking a PPI like Prilosec to protect your stomach while it is healing?

Hiccups are caused by swallowing air when you eat or drink. Just keep that in the back of your mind when you sip. Maybe a little exhale before you sip.
I have spent my life battling hiccups (it was really bad when I was a kid)
I'm so glad things went well for you with Dr. E.
Suggestion - I generally don't come to this part of the boards but for some reason I decided to today. If you want to ask specific questions, you might want to post those on the DS board.

I'm taking Prevacid but I feel like I'm still having too much acid, especially today. Can I take Tums? I don't think I was drinking too fast but I can't say I wasn't either. My handsome male nurse (husband) was very much wanting me to get down more protein drink for the day and I really tried to make it happen. I might have been over zealous with my speed. I'll certainly make myself more aware.

Ingesting too much of anything can irritate your vagus nerve and that can cause hiccups. Maybe you need to cut back on the volume you are taking in at one time.
I know that when my nose starts running, it is time to put down the fork. Some people's eyes water. Some sneeze.
