I met with Herron today, and am so upset that I can't even talk about it, and have popped a Valium. But the good news? My A1C is LOW. As in, 3.3. I had this surgery because I was struggling, and failing, to get it below 12. For those not hip to diabetic lingo, normal is 5.

What did the doc do or say? Your blood sugar is great...so why are you so upset?
Here's a cyber hug.

Maggie - sorry you are having a hard time. The 3.3 is equivalent to a 60 glucose level. You are hypoglycemic. What did Herron suggest. 60 is a dangerously low number and you need to get that up....remember a1c is an average so that means you are dipping lower than 60 at times.
Please see your GB or Endo if you have one. 3.3 is not a good number. Even though we were high before and think of low as good that is too low and you are at risk of bad things if it stays that low..

You're not still on insulin meds, are you? If so, time for a big change there. Now brace yourself this is going to hurt, if you are not on any form of insulin, I must insist that you eat chocolate. One or two squares a day, preferably dark and of high quality. Huge congrats on getting those numbers down, but let's not have you fainting all over the place.

LOL. I remember how odd it was talking to my endo about watching for low blood sugar based on my A1c after spending years trying to get the number down. It's an amazing thing. Hopefully you an turn around any bad news. Sending best wished your way....

(reaching for the medicinal potato chips) Heh.
In fact, I brought my labs over to my GP this afternoon; I expect to talk to him tomorrow or Thursday.

Better to have those chips than Krispy Kreams!!!

I ate a couple of Krispy Kreme doughnuts once in a mistaken attempt to break a stall. Didn't work, of course, and I wouldn't recommend that anyone put them on their regular menu. My concern with chips is that they are difficult to measure out accurately and can lead to excess. Two Hershey Miniature sized squares of chocolate a day are easier to manage and carry with you if you will be out and about. Hopefully, all this will take is an adjustment in medication and not the drastic, horrifying measure of daily chocolate.

No, not Godiva, says the chocolate snob. Teuscher in Rockefeller Center. Flown in weekly from Switzerland. The best.

I agree with NYB. If you can only have a couple of bites of something, make it the best.

I eat fantastic chocolate at least once a week. Teuscher, Maison du Chocolat, Kee's ...
Teuscher flown in from Switzerland, Maison flown in from France, Kee's made right in her shop in NYC...nothing mass produced or chain store sold - those chocolates are not fresh by a longshot.

Ohhh, KEE'S. Yeah, dat's my girl! She makes the most amazing truffles, with wack, often Asian flavors -- curry, chili and coconut, kaffir lime, black sesame. Love them. Though these days, living uptown, my choc of choice is Silver Moon.

Now I want Chocolate. Maggie I am also suffering from Hypoglycemia; I have an episode at least twice a week lately. It's to the point that I am monitoring it; I am so disappointed I had the DS because I was borderline diabetic. I hope your Doc can help you find a solution. ((Hug))

louteg, are you eating something every two hours? Are you avoiding simple carbs? Are you drinking a lot? All of those things will help. I am also hypoglycemic.

I try to eat every two hours, but I am always tired lately and sleeping so I go 4 to 5 hours between meals. I am very much addicted to carbs so I struggle keeping away from rice and bread. I am also struggling with drinking. Simply put I am currently a mess.

How are your iron levels? Dr. Klafter was not in the office on Friday when I went over there. Based on how I was feeling Dr. Wisch gave me an infusion on Friday and had labs done. I have been feeling really crappie for the past 4 days no energy, exhausted, my body hurts all over, I need to lay down every two hours or so and I am forgetting things. I have an appointment to see Dr. Klafter next week Monday.
