Has anyone had luck getting through to him. I have emailed him and his nurse with no luck. Many links are broken on his site. I want to schedule my DS! Anyone have inside information they would like to share?
TIA!, Mellinda

Once you're on the radar as far as having a pending date, communications should pick up a little. It is kind of like "island time" down there sometimes. I had my DS with Dr. Ungson and welcome any questions you may have about it.
Happy to see you here!

Thank you friends! I am so anxious to find out when he can fit me in. How long does it normally take to get on the schedule? I have been obese for over 10 years so I guess waiting around shouldn't be too much of a problem.

This was 7 years ago, but I could have had mine within two weeks of him receiving all the pre-op test results he requested and approving me. I'm the one who postponed it so it would not interfere with a summer vacation I had already planned.
You won't get a date until he has received and reviewed your medical records and and any tests he requests based on your history.
Do you have a passport?

Sounds like you are good to go!
I have to tell you that CIMA was was the cleanest, most efficient, most attentive hospital I have ever witnessed or experienced. My experience in Mexico was exemplary and seven years later, my DS is still a success.

That's awesome to have your grandparents with you. There is a very large couch in the room and one of them can sleep with you, if they'd like. I believe the hospital also has suites that would permit both of your grandparents to stay with you. You might want to ask about it. It may not be more than they would spend on the hotel. When I was there, there was a DS patient who seemed to have brought his whole family.

My grandparents are amazing! They just want to take care of me which is so sweet. Does someone have to stay in the room with me? I would rather sleep alone! My grandfather speaks spanish so he wants to be my interpreter.

Mellinda, I do not believe you are going to know, care or remember that someone else is in the same room with you. You are just going to want to sleep regardless.
Your grandparents sound like lovely people.

My grandfather speaks spanish so he wants to be my interpreter. No one must stay in the room with you. It is just an option. Dr. Ungson and the other doctors who will see you all speak English, or they did 7 years ago. Most of the nursing staff speaks some English, too. I traveled alone, don't speak a word of Spanish, and did fine.

Goodkel, did you have to stay in Mexico for the full 10 days? That is what Dr. Ungson required and what I bought my airline tickets for. It is a good idea to be nearby in case a post-op complication should arise, you are near your surgeon. Better safe than sorry. There should be other US patients in the hotel to socialize with, a Walmart a short cab drive away (where you can kill two birds with one stone--walking the aisles and picking up post op supplies), and a mall with a movie theater nearby. You can't go in, but the hotel has a lovely pool in the courtyard if your grandparents are so inclined. There is an adjacent restaurant, they provide room service to the hotel, with the most delicious homemade soup. Of course, I could only sip the broth, but it was heavenly. They have coin operated washers and dryers with vending machines for detergent. His nurse will come to the hotel to check up on you.

YAY! Sept. 3rd! Will you be flying in the day before?
Luz doesn't sit in an office all day. She checks on patients in the hospital, at the hotel, and drives them from the airport to the hospital and from the hospital to the hotel on checkout. AND does office work.
What do you need?

You're kidding Goodkel! She is quite the woman! I had some transportation questions. The powerpoint said that they provide transportation to/from the airport/hotel/hospital. I wanted to know how that worked. Like if my grandparents want to visit me in the hospital, is there a shuttle from the hotel...etc. Also I wanted to know if I could by my post-op prescriptions here and bring them with me. And I just completed most of the pre-op testing and wanted to know how "fresh" the results need to be. I also needed routing numbers for the banks etc. I am anxious, can you tell??

They will pick you up at the airport and take you to the hospital. When you have been released from the hospital, they will drive you to the hotel. When it is time to leave, they will drive you from the hotel to the airport. Be ready to provide your roundtrip flight information. Have you bought your tickets? As far as I know, they do not provide any transportation for your companions unless they are traveling with you. The hotel is only a short cab ride to the hospital. The front desks in both places can call a cab for your grandparents. Dr. Ungson won't know what to prescribe for you in advance of your surgery. I think my prescriptions ran about $250 and that included absolutely everything I needed post-op including pain medication. You'll need them with you while you are in the hotel, for the trip home, and you'll probably be directed to give yourself a Heparin shot just prior to boarding your flight home. You shouldn't need anything beyond what you get in Mexico. Your surgery is only slightly more than a month away. That is pretty fresh. I can't help you with routing numbers. I paid by debit card and I paid for the hotel when I checked in. Your grandparents will need cash for the cabs, but they take American dollars. I hope this helps!

I am looking to have a re vision from RNY to DS. Can anyone tell me what the cost could be (ballpark figures)- surgery, hotel, length of stay, etc? Thanks. I may be wrong, but I am not aware of Dr. Ungson performing RnY to DS revisions. You should call or email him. I had my virgin open DS 7 years ago and it cost $12k. He wanted me there for 10 days, one of those days was the day I arrived and was checked into the hospital in preparation for surgery the next morning. I had to buy about $250 in prescriptions when I checked out of the hospital. All told, including first class airfare RT from VA, I was about $15k out of pocket. Are you on the west coast?
