July 21, 2014, Update
Happy to report some more positive news for Diane, she just had the second drain removed from the larger abscess, and she is so happy! Tomorrow she is scheduled to have the PICC line out and then, she will be fully unplugged. She said she is able to eat more every day, things are slowly getting better. Diane said to thank you all for your support through her ordeal and eventually will be up to posting again herself. GO Diane, so glad to see this turnaround for her and Lisa/PGB!

Omg I've HAD IT with incompetent doctors!!!!! I feel horrible that she has had to endure such pain and discomfort. I can fully relate...my experience is fresh and still palpable. It's traumatizing and very hard to get over.
Dee Dee - I think about you often and I am SO glad you were finally in a hospital getting a proper diagnosis and plan of treatment going forward.
Trust me....I CAN FULLY RELATE. Tons and tons of hugs sent your way, doll!!!!

Oh my goodness! I am so glad to hear that Lisa and Diane are on the mend!!! I still cannot believe all that they have been through and they still power through it with positivity. (of course they both deserve a hella big dose of ranting and raving on occasion after all they have been through!) I would have been just a miserable bitch to deal with if I had gone through all that those two have. You girls are both so strong! I'm sorry it's so few and far between when I post. I do hover and check in on you guys from time to time...I guess after the initial confusion of finding out my surgery was a bit different than what you all had...I needed to distance myself so I wasn't constantly driving myself crazy comparing my progress and obsessing over all of the unknown. You guys are an amazing group of people and I love you all for the support and encouragement you have shown me from the first time I logged onto this site.
I still don't know what is in store for the long haul...but I am down 105 lbs in 9 months and my first set of labs came back pretty good. A little low in calcium and D...but nothing to panic about yet.
Anyway... sorry to hijack the thread. I just wanted to let Lisa and Diane know I am thinkin of them and will continue to send up prayers on their behalf and for all of you as well. It's so wonderful to hear they are finally getting answers and progress is being made. Take care everyone!!! =)

I am very happy for your success so far.
I hope you stick around long enough to show us what life with the SADI is like long term.
You are a pioneer.
Your experience is invaluable, especially if the SADI demonstrates long term success, your journey and experience is what pre-ops will follow.

I took such a long break from this board and can't believe DeeDee is still struggling. Are there any updates? I really hope they get to the bottom of this once and for all so they can fix her issue.

I took such a long break from this board and can't believe DeeDee is still struggling. Are there any updates? I really hope they get to the bottom of this once and for all so they can fix her issue. A few weeks ago Sharyl heard from Diane and it sounds like the Cleveland Clinic finally figured it out and although it is taking some time to recover, the last report I heard was that Diane was well on her way to recovery. For those of you who have never dealt with a chronic and or undiagnosed ailment I can't stress enough how important it is that you get to a place like Mayo or Cleveland Clinic. I haven't been to the Cleveland Clinic but I hear they are great. I have taken my son to Mayo 6 different times and I can tell you it is like no other institution in the world. They are set up completely differently than a regular hospital system in that their mission is too diagnose (yes they have hospitals behind the scenes to treat inpatient if necessary) and they have world class physician's(many lead their respective fields) and diagnostic equipment. The other thing that separated them is that they run their departments so efficiently. When you check in you will be given an itinerary that tells you exactly where to be and what test you are having at what time...and that appointment WIll be on time. You may be there for a week, and if something isn't open you can always go to that area and get on cancellation list and they sometimes can work you in, but you will get all the diagnostics necessary to rule in or out specific ailments. Regular hospitals, especially smaller systems, just don't have the resources of a Mayo or Cleveland Clinic and they have a totally different mission. If you have a serious and or undiagnosed Chronic illness, do yourself a favor and get to Mayo (or Cleveland Clinic) ...they can save your life!

I took such a long break from this board and can't believe DeeDee is still struggling. Are there any updates? I really hope they get to the bottom of this once and for all so they can fix her issue. She had an undiagnosed abscess and she was just being shuffled from doctor to doctor and no one picked up the reins to make the effort to get to the bottom of her continuing fevers and infections. Someone here suggested that she go to the Cleveland Clinic and we all encouraged that. They took the time and made the effort to diagnose and treat the problem. This is her latest update: Read more: weightlosssurgery.proboards.com/thread/9198/update-on-deedee484-diane?page=2&scrollTo=133356#ixzz3A3IBEbvVI would like to know how her recovery is coming along now if anyone is in touch with her.

Update August 11, 2014
I was in touch with Diane over the weekend and her progress is very slow, the infection still isn't completely gone but is definitely improving, which is good to hear. Her doctors said it is relative, that these issues take a long time to heal. He increased her antibiotics to three times a day, plus two anti-fungals twice a day for another month. She goes back to see the doctor in September. Presently, she is feeling really horrible because she developed a viral upper respiratory infection. Her system is still very weak and susceptible, but the progress is forward, and they are optimistic about her recovery.
Diane's revision from a very complicated, old messy VBG to DS was in December 2013 and was not properly diagnosed or treated for such a long time, that it certainly made things worse. She's in good hands now, and she definitely appreciates the positive thoughts. Keep them coming, she REALLY needs to get this behind her!

Thx, Sharyl. You truly are an angel! Is she home? Or still hospitalized? Diane is truly a lovely person, so is her husband, I was lucky to meet them here! Thankfully she's at home; but very very housebound, very limited in what she can do. Her quality of life honestly since her surgery has been zilch to sucking hugely It's hard not to wonder how much worse it might have gotten because she wasn't diagnosed sooner, but the good thing is SHE now and definitely moving forward. She just really needs a break and to have some good/great days!

Oh how fucking awful. I'm sorry, I hate to say it, but the potential problems with this surgery -- and I'm a poster child as well; the only thing that seems to be working at all for me is opium, if you can believe it -- anyway, the potential problems are....really problematic.

Maggiesara, nothing to hate to say, it's true, revisions are big, complicated surgery. It makes me sad to see Diane, Lisa, you struggling as you have, and there are others too. It's something everyone really needs to consider when having major surgery and especially when it's a revision and there is additional complicated medical history involved. I just want all of you to be WELL now, on all fronts!

Girl I feel you! I was on pure opium tinctures for 9 months a few years back. The ONLY thing that stopped my chronic diarrhea after months of trying other shit and several hospitalizations. Fucking sucked. Detox was HELL. Felt like I was dying for 17 days. Worst experience of my life and as you know, my sour experiences are plentiful. I am glad you have relief sweetness. I've been there!

Such serious complications! I'm rooting for all of you - Diane, Lisa, and Maggiesara. My husband just had bariatric surgery (the sleeve) on 6/25 - and contracted c-diff. He's had diarrhea ever since...as did I after my DS back in 2013. I hope and you all are on the road to recovery finally. Girlrocker, I hope your upcoming surgery goes smoothly - and that your insurance will come thru for you!
