I am still struggling with fevers...mostly low -grade 99-100.5....except for this week! Sunday I was very tired and stayed in bed until I got up and got ready for Sunday evening services at my church. I was tired but felt pretty well and fever was only 99. I came home and fever started climbing to 101. I took meds and went to bed! Monday, Tuesday and today fevered, coughing nausea all three days ranging from 101.8 - 102.8! Monday and Tuesday in middle of night it spiked to 103.2 during both nights! I'm feeling exhausted, fatigued and miserable!!! Back to barely eating, protein intake has decreased but fluids...mostly iced water is not doing too bad. I have been seeing a Infectious Disease Dr, my PCP, a Rheumatologist, and my Hematologist! They are ALL baffled! In the next week I have 3 more series of bloodwork, a CAT Scan, a Chest X-ray and another visit to the ID Dr and possibly an Iron transfusion! I am growing so weary and tired of it all! For three days I made it to my Dr's appts but other than that I've been on the couch and in bed for 3 days!! I do have a bad cough but my PCP said it was probably from my GERD ( I disagree). The low-grade fevers have been going on since January (my surgery was Dec 24th) so I can't help but think there may be a connection but my surgeon says NO cause I would be so much pain that I would be in the ER...if it was an infection in my surgical site! I get pain but def not that excessive! I'm feeling I will never get better...... Any suggestions??

I smell an internal abscess, but i am not a doctor. I think you have an infection somewhere. and your body is losing the battle.

Glad you are seeing the infectious diseases guy again. Ask a lot of questions - for example why are certain markers in your blood elevated - what could be the causes?
Also fyi what you would be getting is an iron infusion, not transfusion.

I think you have an infection...but I haven't a clue as to where or what is infected. Maybe you can up the PPI, ask and see if that helps.
You shouldn't be having fever this far out from surgery. Now that's a fact. I doubt any of us here are qualified to say what it is. I would get in the doc's face and say you are tired of this and want it fixed. I'm glad you are staying on top of this.
Please let us know what your test results reveal.
I'm so sorry this has been going on - WAY TOO LONG. Hugs.

Oh Diane this just SUCKS! I can't believe all these doctors can't figure out what the hell it is. Has to be an infection of some kind...I wonder if it's viral because I know those are sneaky, can 'hide' and, they don't respond to antibiotics. I wish I had more suggestions to give you, please keep us posted, and keep posting so we can at least support you, I'm so sorry this is happening, it's time for it to go away already. Big hugs! xo

I'm sorry to hear this and can definitely relate to your frustration. My kidney infection came back and I am now doing IV antibiotic infusions once a day for the next 10 days. They left the IV in me for the duration of the treatments(fine by me - who wants to get stuck 10 times).
Chills, fever, malaise, nausea, flank pain, body aches etc. I'm right by your side girl. We'll figure things out and get through this okay?
P.S. have you received IV antibiotics by chance? My doc was concerned about the malabsorption and wanted to try this method to see if it will make a difference in killing this infection. Perhaps you could benefit from the same method if an infection is determined to be present and they prescribe an antibiotic?
Take care!!

Lisa- I'm so sorry you're feeling crappy again! Enough is enough! For both of you!
Excellent point, though, re: IV abx. Whatever you were prescribed, Deedee, may not have been beneficial due to your malabsorption. And yes, a CT scan may be able to identify an abcess.
Lisa, do you have a PICC line?

Excellent point indeed! I've had to make some adjustments with my anti-depressants for this very reason. Very helpful, I'm just sorry we're learning because Lisa's nasty kidney infection has returned and you are feeling so poorly Diane.

Dianne sorry to hear you are still struggling. This sounds almost exactly like what happened to me twice in the last two years before surgery. Low grad fever for couple months and I saw an ID, but he found nothing. Eventually the fever just went away.
The CT is a good idea, but with all due respect to the other posters, they are just guessing so wait for the CT and don't get worried about any tumor or the like unless they find one. Chances are they won't find anything.
Lisa,
Good gosh, that sucks and I am sorry both of you are going through this shit.
Good Idea on IV antibiotic.
BTW, i am pretty sure I have Strepp throat. Wife was diagnosed Monday and I started feeling like hell yesterday and still do today.

Not a PICC line but I do have an I.V. in my neck! Ew it's gross but they cover it up nicely before I leave the place so I don't have to look at it. LOL. I'm a REALLY hard stick so this definitely benefits all parties. I'm too sick to go anywhere anyhow. I just hope this works! If so, it will be nice to report back here so Diane can maybe request something similar. We have very much of the same symptoms right now.

Diane, I know that it is difficult because you are struggling so much with the fevers, but please be sure to stay on top of your liquids, protein, and all the vitamins you can get in. Your body is under enough stress and you need to do all you can to help give it the strength to fight this--whatever it is.
And Lisa, girl you are one amazing trooper. All you are going through and you'd never know it by all the cheerful, funny support you continue to provide here.
I do not want you to get well soon. I want you both to get better right this minute, dammit.

Thanks everyone for your care and concerns!! Sorry I haven't been on .for a few days but I have been (and still am) in the hospital. Let me give everyone an update:
Fevers starting getting higher and higher ever since last Sunday. (101.8-104.2).
Tuesday I saw my ID Dr and he was not happy about the fact I'm still running fevers (my temp was a little over 100). He ordered bloodwork and a CAT scan of abdomen and pelvis for Friday.
Saw my PCP the same day. She ordered bloodwork and a chest X-ray since I have been having some nasty coughing spells.
On Thursday morning my daughter picked me up (feeling too weak to drive) and brought me to hospital for the labs and bloodwork. After getting registered, I had the chest X-ray. The tech who did the chest X-ray talked me into going straight to ER...and by then I didn't argue with her!
At the ER .....they ended up admitting me for Pneumonia and dehydration.
They started treating the pneumonia and then they said my blood numbers were bad and had dropped some more in just one day. So they were going to give me blood transfusions on Sat.
Yesterday they gave me two units of blood and also sent some GI specialists to talk to me. The setup an endoscopy for Monday @ noon.
Today AFTER having the transfusion yesterday my numbers only went up from 8.6 to 9.2! So the Drs added a colonoscopy for tomorrow too.
Today ......I have been "prepping" for both procedures by drinking that gross jug of stuff and the liquid mag oxide!
Hope to have some more news tomorrow!!!
