I also have to say.. elimination when your not eating much seems ridiculous. Early on will not dictate your life. I could not eat cheese at month 2 but now it s a staple. Im just saying...

Leonie mentioned something that got me to thinking too. I was on a feeding tube for six weeks too, and after that, I literally lived on 5 things probably for another 6 weeks: protein shakes, tomato soup with tofu pureed, peanubutter, cottage cheese, hummus. For some of us, the very early diet stage plan lasts longer, especially when we've had the amount of work done we have. Even without problems or history of another surgery. Our protein job after surgery is to find the best things that agree with us (while staying hydrated, walking, breathing) There's a 'list' of foods that fit this phase, but not everything works for everyone, virgin or revision. There are overall patterns with the DS itself, and again, not everything works for everyone. It's why YMMV becomes our mantra, among others. And that job continues, it's always a quest to find the best protein options with highest protein bang for the buck with our limited real estate.
We really can't compare ourselves to others, can't emphasize this enough. Let me use myself as an example. I read about people who 'fly down' to their goal weights, talk about tight sleeves when they are two years out or longer, no regain issues if they stick to the DS eating, or their weight goes right back the moment they eliminate the few extra carbs no matter how far out they are. I've seen this with virgin and revision surgeries. I was very fortunate with my revision and had a smooth time overall, but my recovery was very slow. And something I have wondered all along since my body was so flat-lined metabolically at age 50 after the years of yo-yo dieting, losses/regains, and a bariatric procedure, is how long my own 'reset' would last and how 'tight' it would be. I can tell you it's loosened up - it's hard for me to distinguish entrirely because of the menopause, but I know that I don't have that tight sleeve and extra uber efficient malabsorption, I do have to watch the amount of carbs (and I eat predominantly good, complex type). My DS is not quite as 'foregiving' as it was the first year. And that's ok, because it's a hard working tool, and I just have to watch it now. For others this happens 3, 4, 5 years down the line. Some people are dealing with regain of 10-30 lbs. And some, never have this issue at all, 10 years plus, they maintain. We have to make our surgery work for us and our own bodies. I have had to let go of the anger and pain of not having what was the better surgery tool for me first. Focus forward, work with what i have.
Even in the best of circumstances, it's a lot of trial and error, some foods go away, they come back later. Factor in medical issues, havoc from old surgery, and it's that much more challenging. Especially adding into the mix the emotional, anxiety issues we have when we're revisions, so many fears, shame, magnified. Please take yourself off that hook, your goal has been to get healthy, be well, for you and your family.
I want to encourage you to work with liquid/easily digestible protein options while you continue to heal and the liquid proteins, pureeing tofu or adding eggs into things is a good way to 'layer' that's gentler, know that it might take a lot longer, but it will get better and there is yummy food in your future. You just had your surgery Chrismtas Eve my dear and it just February 24 today, such a short, early time in your road to recovery. Be kind, gentle, patient with yourself. When in doubt, write/call Dr. K and, you know we are here for you, no time limit, no topic off limits.
Hugs to you!

Resa... Love the "cream-and-nitrous-oxide" cure! Think I may have to try that! Haha And I sure am hoping that 4oz prime rib is in OUR near futures! Thanks for the {{{hugs}}}!
Scott...thanks I will keep telling myself that it is all ok AND that it a WILL get better....as per SCOTT!! Lol
Sharyl...you are right! Dr K was able to go in there and clean out all the nasty stuff that was giving me so many problems and I have to remember it's not something easy to heal from. I appreciate you for reminding me that!
Leonie....I sent Dr K an email outlining what I have gone through these last two weeks. I also emailed him 14 pages of labs and reports from my PCP and ER report....so hopefully he will be able to give me some advice as to what to do next. Nothing has been said about a stricture so I'm not sure. Thanks for your encouragement! I try to tell myself this isn't anything I'm doing wrong but just stuff that needs worked out.
Whit.....I don't think what I'm going through is life-threatening but on the other hand I don't want it to get that way! I did contact Dr K and he is reviewing everything now.

Yeah Whit I understand what you are saying. I was trying to eat mostly meat and was having a hard time so I went back to softer foods and that did help some. The problem is one day I can eat or drink something and the next day it gags me..so every day is different. Lately potatoes are one of the few things that taste good to me but I know I have to be careful because of the carbs. Still struggling with that darn protein though!

Diane this is a familiar tune. It is still like that for me. Eggs for example sometimes yes please, sometimes no, or HELL NO! And Cottage cheese I am nauseous just typing it out. Carbs are easier to eat for me to. I loved Ritz Crackers earlier out. I typed this in another post but I still get a good portion of my protein n the AM with a drink. It works for me. You will work it out. Just take a deep breath and give yourself a break. You are still healing. Take Good Care Whit

Yes, Whit has really been through it! Diane, in terms of protein supplementation, have you tried the Unjury flavored protein? You could add that to the foods like potatoes you can manage. Don't worry about the carbs, you aren't eating enough to get nutrition period, I doubt you're anywhere near 50g of carbs. But the goal for you now is to find what you can tolerate and if there's a way to bump up protein with all the 'tricks', give it a try - whether pureeing tofu, adding eggs, unflavored protein, the protein shots/bullets. Here's a link for the shots/bullets, I would try the Carnivor or the IDS Sports New Whey, and the prices are good online: www.gnc.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=protein%20shots&origkw=protein+shots&f=Taxonomy/GNC/13200328&sr=1
