Ok but I thought Sancocho is a traditional Dominican stew or soup. I have a few Dominican friends, I did not realise that Sancocho would be served at a Cuban restaurant.
Sancocho seven meat Dominican stew mashed plaintains with eggs ham fried cheese coffee with milk orange, carrot, and ginger juice
Live and learn all this time I just thought Sancocho was Dominican. I did not know it is served in differing variations by other Latino cultures

Every once in awhile want something sweeter, so I bought gluten free bluberry waffles, just had 2 with my coffee with lots of butter. I'll have a protein shake and a second breakfast a little later of eggs and bacon.

Yesterday was an awful breakfast. I guess I must confess, after my coffee, I ate the irresistable white chocolate ice cream right out of the tub. For Breakfast! Before going to the gym! I did about six Sudokus on the loo. I had to interrupt the training session to run. I still feel bloated. So today I am a reformed DS'er. It is not too hard because I do not have the car and I finished off the tub of ice cream yesterday. I was inspired by the 'very eggy french toast' mentioned here. So with my ginormous double sized coffee cup I had this decadent treat: One slice wholewheat bread Dipped in two eggs plus a spare yolk (i spilt the white while cracking it) Fried in oil and lots of butter. I poured all the extra egg on top of the bread. Then I roasted pekans in butter, cinnamon and a teaspoon of sugar using the same pan. You could use honey. (Take the mixture out of the hot pan as soon as they look toasty as they tend to keep on cooking.) Serve with cream cheese and sf syrup. The coffee was ice cold before I finished it.

Breakfast at La Floridita, an old school Cuban place in Manhattan: sancocho mangu con huevos jamon queso frito cafe con leche jugo de naranja, zanahoria, y jengibre Besides keeping us on track about breakfast, how about English? Not sure who had mentioned it a ways back but I made oatmeal, half way in I poured in a well beaten egg, continued to cook it up. Man did I like that! Btw when I do oatmeal I use a half cup uncooked. Any thoughts on this? I could easily double it but I am stil afraid of carbs and I am having a real problem with picking at them lately. May be I need to get more into my diet normally to reduce craves and that self defeating one bite won't hurt me mentality? Kenny Btw I have not decked or bitched out anyone who said you can't or shouldn't eat that, in a while!

Traditional sancocho is made with one meat only - Dominicans use beef. The 7 meats version is a "deluxe" version and is usually for special occasions, holidays, etc. The cuban version is made with one meat - pork. Cubans call it Ajiaco, but in NYC because there are so many Dominicans, it just gets called sancocho everywhere.

Breakfast this week is egg casserole that I made in the crockpot (I posted the recipe in the recipe forum). So good and easy for me to throw in a container and heat at work.

Chocolate for breakfast! But, but, but... where is the protein? I guess cream cheese has a bit, but I thought pork rinds are not very bio-available. I need a solid protein breakfast to set me up for the day.

Yeah....I think mistercy's breakfast needs more protein.
This morning we had cheese omelets, toasted brioche, and I split a banana with my kid.

Yah, I was backed up from the night before, and the chocolate combined with the cream cheese seems to have a laxative effect on me. I probably had more than 4 oz. of cream cheese, I keep dipping the pork rinds until the vagal nerve effect nose runniness tells me I'm done. I followed this up with a double shot protein shake, 60 grams of goodness, two hours later after the bowels were cleared!

Thought I'd revive the breakfast thread, since I'm finding more and more how important breakfast is to get me a good start to the day. If I don't eat a good breakfast with plenty of protein, I never catch up during the day.
This morning: 2 scrambled eggs, with a tongue/pepper/tomato sauce on top. Coffee. Water.

I "discovered" Jimmy Deans precooked, frozen sausage patties. According to the rigorous taste testing done by Cooks Country (or ATK, if forget which show it was), it's better than buying fresh Bob Evans in a tube because: As soon as it's ground, it's formed and cooked, giving the fat absolutely no time to go rancid. Another reason I like it is that it's ground pretty fine, so there are fewer chewy bits. So, there's that.
A word of caution -- Don't hold the frozen patties in the palm of one hand while trying to pry them apart with a dull butterknife. The sonnykablitch will still almost take a finger off if it slips. Guess how I know that. So, now, I throw two patties still stuck together into a small skillet, add a bit of water, use medium low heat, put a lid on it, and go busy myself for 10 or 15 minutes. Come back and they are not stuck, then I can brown them up a bit. They really do taste good, and it's something I can throw in a container and eat while driving to work. (I COULD get up a little earlier, but who wants to do that?)
So, this is my new breakfast love.
The old standby is a White Castle breakfast sandwich: Bacon, Egg and Cheese on wheat toast, remove one slice of toast, fold it over, and enjoy it's greasy deliciousness. Again, good traveling food.

Same breakfast (for the most part) every day for the past 11 years. Two extra-large eggs, american cheese, 6 slices of pre-cooked (Costco brand) bacon, on top of an english muffin. I've got it down to a science. I can cook breakfast in the time it takes to toast the english muffin.
Sometimes I change it up with some lox on a hollowed-out bagel loaded with cream cheese. As long as I get a minimum of 25-30 grams of protein, I'm happy.
I agree that if I don't have a high protein breakfast, my day just simply isn't the same.

30 gram protien bar when i get up, then either a couple breakfast burrito's or egg mcmuffins from MCD's closer to work, with a Monster Rehab pink lemonaide while i'm driving in.
Thats been my breakfast for the last 6 months or so.. works out well for me during the week. Weekends are Eggs and Bacon and Cheese. and extra grainy bread. (pepperidge farms - 15 grain)
3 scrambled eggs, 2 slices of cheese, and 6-8-10 slices of bacon on the bread. takes me an hour to eat, but OH so good.. (oh yeah, gotta butter the toast as well..)

I have been keeping a spiral cut ham in the fridge and usually eat that (32g protein) and some full fat cottage cheese (13g protein) at around 8:00 and then have a body fortress chocolate peanut butter (45g protein) coffee with 1/2&1/2 (9g protein) at around 10:00. 99g of protein before lunch!

4 extra large farm fresh eggs, typically sunny side up but sometimes wet scrambled with Monterey jack cheese 1/4-1/3 cup ...and 8 slices costco pre cooked bacon ...that is 56-66 g protein..
Then I get 2 breakfast burritos at work, but eat about half of tortilla.

I love breakfast. I usually make the cream cheese pancakes once a week and store them in the fridge. I have wrapped them about sausage links for a quick bite. I always start at about 5:30 am (we are early risers) with a protein shake (50 grams). I also made some type of sausage/cheese thingy (Jones sausage, cream cheese, 1 roasted red pepper cut into strips, cheddar cheese and egg whites baked in muffins tin). They come out like miniature meat loafs and I just heat them up.
Sometimes when I do not have anything - it can be leftovers with the protein source that I had the night before.

I like to have different things each day for breakfast. Yesterday I made what kids called them egg and bacon muffins. I chopped onion, mushrooms, ham. I caramelized the onions then added mushrooms till they almost done, added ham and cook for a min or 2. Set aside. Lined the muffin tins with thin sliced bacon and roasted in the one till crispy. Pour the grease out and save to use later. Put bacon cups back in. Beat eggs with heavy cream, add salt and spice of your choice (herb de province was in mine). Put the onion/ham/mushroom mixter in the bacon shels and pour eggs over. Bake in the oven till you like the eggs to be done. They still cook as we take them out. After they cooled a little we had with some mint tea and whole wheat bread (bread for kids). I was planning to add some aged chease on them but forgat lol. Today for breakfast I had some beef tounge with garlic/horseradish aoli and about 3 cherry tomatoes. Some days I would have scramble eggs with cream. Some days couple slices of cucamber with cream cheese on it and some cold smoked salmon. I really try hard to get food in for breakfast, I do miss having a crape or 2. I am almost 5m out at what point do you guys think I can have some? I hope it helps some one with there food ideas.

I think you can have a crepe occasionally - there is no forbidden food with a DS. It's a question of balance and moderation.

Most morning its a normal staple on my plate. One thing I do worried about is pomegranate. Is it really bad for us? Thank you again.

Most morning its a normal staple on my plate. One thing I do worried about is pomegranate. Is it really bad for us? Thank you again. Like any fruit, pomegranate contains alot of natural sugars. You're still early out from your surgery and as you progress you will learn what foods work for you and what foods don't work. As NYB said, nothing is off limits or "bad". It's just that everyone reacts differently and you have to see how you feel after eating a crepe or some pomegranate seeds. If you eat something now that doesn't agree with you (bloating, bathroom issues, etc.) the suggestion is usually to put it away for a while and try it again a month from now. Our tastes change so dramatically because of this surgery. It's a long learning process that takes patience. Ultimately (months and years from now) it will become second nature what you eat and what you avoid.
