deedee, you just have to try. It's all a matter of trial and error. And just when you think you know what does and doesn't agree with you...it will change.

Maggiesara...do the veggies bother you at all?? I've heard so much bad about the after-effects of eating them that I've been kid of leary of them! But I'm starting to get tired of primarily just meat! It's all trial and error my dear and not being afraid; the very worst that happens is you get an upset stomach, wind up in the bathroom I worked in vegetables very slowly and in very small amounts. Breakfast omlettes, crustless quiche are two of my favorites to work them in. Or I add some in with sweet potato, also a breakfast favorite.

Sharyl....good suggestions! I will try some in an omelet and see how it goes! Of course I will sauté the onions and peppers in lots of butter first!

To tell you the truth, DeeDee, my GI tract is such a freaking mess (still with the constant, no-days-off diarrhea) that I have no idea what might bother it MORE. That's not entirely true: I know that significant amounts of white flour -- as in, several bagels and an entire can of fried onions* -- and sugar alcohols both do me in. But other than that, I don't know that anything I eat makes me sicker than I am already. The one thing I really do have to be aware of is not over-eating. I am not good at hearing the "you're done now" signals, and I do know that stuffing in the food makes for a longer night in the bathroom. But again, the bathroom nights are already long, so it's difficult to pinpoint much. *So sue me

Aww Maggiesara I feel for you! I had some diarrhea the first two weeks but that has changed. So it sounds like anything you eat sends you to the bathroom. Do they know why?? Are you a new DS or revision? I too understand not hearing the 'signals'! I start eating and it's hard to tell when to stop! well I am def praying things turn around and start getting better for you!!

They're testing to see if I still have C.Diff, which I suspect I do. However, my GI thinks that the real issue is that my guts just can't handle the malabsorption. I am thinking seriously about contacting Keshishian, in California, and going to see him, since my sense is that he tends to get a lot of the problematic cases, and at this point, I sure am one.

Ohh wow! Well that's good they are going to re-check you again. Something is definitely wrong. I think you should def contact Dr K. He will tell you exactly what he thinks and help you in any way he can! He is the best Dr I have ever been to and I strongly believe I might not be here today if it was not for him! And yes he definitely deals with some of the hardest cases so you def need to contact him! Hoping you get the answers you need really soon! Keep us posted on your progress!

But I'm starting to get tired of primarily just meat! A little bit of vegies makes all the difference for me. By dinnertime I have usually had enough protein and cannot face more then I enjoy me some cooked vegies or salad. These worked well for me from early out: Mushrooms Baby marrows or courgettes. Cherry tomatoes Water chestnut Micro greens, basil, pesto Avocado, a slice or two Gem squash is a favourite Cucumber Dill pickles Olives Adding, I regularly add some of these vegies to breakfast.

Started with my typical cup of coffee, 2 runny eggs nuked for 25 seconds each in their own bowl, 8 strips of bacon...and then an hour later I had four slices of deli turkey nuked for 20 seconds and another cup of Joe.

As a general rule, yup. But I do better if I nibble something when I want it instead of saying no to every carb all the time. Then i'm just miserable. A bite isn't going to hurt me. Honestly. I agree with you Katie! Deprivation breeds failure (be it short term or long term) in my opinion and in my experience. As long as you are mindful of what, when & how much and truly feel you have a handle on it, I firmly believe in this practice for short and long term success. Of course, this is my experience. Everyone is different.

I just think that so early out, it is important to have some protein every time you eat something.

Well, I got brunch delivered, and from a new place. Pretty good -- their version of "cassoulet," which turned out to be a heap of braised beans with several kinds of sausage, and two fried eggs on top. Delicious, but I managed about a third of it, with not a lot of the beans. Stuffed now.
Nap is totally calling my name. Coffee when I get up.

8 pieces of bacon, 2 eggs with three slices of american cheese melted onto it. Also two small slices of cantaloupe. Big breakfast today, eaten in two parts, not my usual, and the only thing I've eaten for 8 hours since is a protein shake and a handful of cashews. Still, yummy way to start a Sunday!

Can we keep this a breakfast thread? Thanks. OOPS sorry!! DeeDee, nothing to 'ooops' about! And acutally was going to give a shoutout to Maggie to maybe start a new thread, because I'm quite concerned for her ongoing health problems and that's probably a much better place to talk about the very serious issues she's facing. You asked good questions about having a craving for non-protein items and yes, breakfast it can be done via omlettes and quiche.

Muuuah!
One of my favorite early post-op breakfasts were egg scrambles - eggs with of butter, cheese, baconm a bit of vegetable; and then 1/2 a low carb tortilla that I would toast quick in the pan too for some 'bready' toast. It was kind of like an 'uconstructed' burrito. Eggs agreed with me for the most part, though I had to switch them up sometimes, and it was a great way to add other things, 'layer' without adding a ton of food. It's actually something I learned when I had my RNY and still something I do today. I like to change up the cheese too, feta is a favorite and spinach, as long as I don't use toooooo much spinach or owwwwwwww.

I made a breakfast sandwich.
Croissant stuffed with 2 fried eggs, 2 slices of cheese, 1 large slice of black forest ham, 6 slices of bacon, 2 tomato slices, mayo.
I had to separate this into 2 mini-breakfasts.
It kept me very full. Lunch in 20 minutes!
