Feeling better today, they added tylenol, PCA dilaudid, finnegan for nausea around the clock and iv protonix and this is the only combo that's allowing me to actually stop vomiting, get some pain relief and rest, so today is better, not great but better. Nothing by mouth, my guts are still in the process of waking up so no sipping for me. I'd kill for a sip of cold water! Can't really carry on a conversation or pay attention to TV, kind of out of it. This is going to be rough, but there's progress every day and things will continue to get better and that's what matters. My nurses have been fabulous. As has the on call doctor and my room is great. Couldn't really ask for more... Except that cold water. Lol ttyl.

The medicine to treat nausea is Phenergan or generic promethazine, lol. If Finnegan is visiting then the dilaudid must be working great. I hope some handsome stud named Finnegan brings you a sip of something wonderful soon. Feel better quick.

Missed somehow that you were moved up to the 20th. Sorry you're dealing with so much but glad you're essentially okay. It does get a little better day by day.
I remember when they finally let me have some ice water...holding those ice cubes in my mouth was the best feeling ever! Hang in there!

Katie, sorry to hear that you can not sip. That is what got me through that first couple of days. You are doing great. Rest and get spoiled by the hospital. Let them serve you. Everyday you will build up your strength. Keep moving forward. We all are cheering you on.

Just had an albuterol breathing treatment and i feel soooo much better, omg. I had been so weak all day and that did the trick! still no gas, so still no water, but I feel like that breathing treatment helped me turn an important corner today. Also, nausea is gone for the most part. Good stuff!

Yeah, I was too weak to bother googling the spelling on that one medication. Didn't care one tiny bit in that moment, lol. Started having bowel movements today! Which means I started sipping liquids. I can only keep 3/4 an oz down at the time. And I have lots of kind of bloating type pain spasms in my tiny tummy. Is this familiar with anyone else's experience 4 days post op? Sometimes the carnation instant breakfast comes back up regardless of how much/little I try. Which worries me. My PCA was disconnected, still taking pain pills every 8 hours and shots every 2-3 hours, and IV Tylenol when needed... There is little to no incision pain or gas pain, but where the band/scar tissue was hurts all the way through to my back and it is still pretty daggone awful if I don't have the meds in me/when I wake up. Lungs still ouchie with deep breaths, still coughing up yellow gunk, but a lot less of it! IV fluids were reduced, nausea meds increased. Today was pretty rough, I didn't expect the transition to liquids to be as difficult. But, it is what it is. I've also been having chills, shaking and waking up DRIPPING in sweat, but with temps in the 98-99 degree range, no one can tell me why. I'm really scared of coming off my IV, and of going home because Idk what I'd do without it at this point. Maybe tomorrow will make a difference. Lots and lots of walking (5+ times daily) and using my breathing thingy. So no worries, there.
Merry Christmas guys!

I know you are at that uncontrolled downward swoop of the rollercoaster when you wish you never got on, but I can assure you that it is worth the ride.
Now it is your one and only job to sip. A tiny bit every waking minute. Try different things. I swear by Pedialyte. Try unflavoured whey isolate, people mention Isopure. Try sf popsicles. Try egg drop soup. Try warm tea, icy water.
That Carnation instant breakfast is made of carbs, and they probably mixed it with milk!
Hang on, it gets fun.

Thanks guys! I had a lab lady from hell today.. She came in at 4 am, asked about my surgery and then proceeded to tell me how she had the sleeve done after doing tons of research and she had a leak, and how the stomach acid poured into her abdomen damaging all of her organs and causing massive scar tissue build up which caused her constant, horrible pain for years before she could convince anyone that it needed to be removed, it was removed and converted to RNY and she's still in daily pain and has had six surgeries to fix her giant mess. I was so scared, it was bad. And both of my hospital companions were asleep. I don't know what she was thinking, but damn! Not a cool bedtime story to tell someone in my position. Other than that, last night was GREAT! I slept almost 8 hrs only waking up for nurse visits, potty breaks and to shift a little in bed. I got a whole ounce of apple juice down this am with only a small amount of gas pain, zero nausea and I'm about to get a shower. Merry Christmas to meee, it's going to be a great day! P.S. I hope y'all don't mind me keeping this updated in so much detail, it's kind of become a journal type thing for me and I really enjoy it.

No we are glad you are updating. Then we don't worry. That nurse is an idiot. Well good thing you didn't have the surgeries she did. You are going to be fine.

Having a bad day today. Lots of nausea, pain and some frustration.. I just want to get my fluids in and keep them down and my stomach is really limiting me here.. I got in 11 oz total yesterday, but didn't get sick. Tried some juice this morning and it's just not gonna happen right now. Yesterday was so good, too! Aggghh -sigh- I'm going to take a nap and then go walking and try again later. ):
