This is so scary. This is exactly why I am so thankful that I found you guys. I'd probably be on a road to sickness by now had I not. My surgeons office is better then some but no where near where they need to be when it comes to post op care for a DSer. The scary thing is that they have a DS class. There were 5 of us in my class. NONE of the others had ever heard of OH and were eating up the RNY bullshit they were feeding us. I tried to get them to come and learn but ignorance is bliss. I was out cast for the rest of the clss, BOO HOO, no one liked me. Who gives a crap, I'm doing wonderfully with my DS and the one guy I've heard anything about is not doing that great. I tried to help the rest is up to the individual. Can't save 'em all I guess!! BUt I want to say thanks to the VETS one more time, specially EN;)

It scares me that most of the people in your class will follow those ridiculous instructions.

I just had surgery and spent a week in SICU and was shocked at how ignorant the hospital was about bariatric surgeries. The "bariatric diet" that my surgeon ordered for me was mostly carbs. The scrambled eggs, the only protein in the breakfast, were the mix that has pancake batter-type stuff in it. I really got in to it with the dietician because they were upset that I was "refusing" to eat. Oy!

The PacLap group meetings are great, but the best are these online groups because they are always available to keep us on course. Hiya Gail. I'll actually be at the January meeting because I have my 1 year check up that day with Maria. So I'll see you there. Kim I wanna crash this party. I will try whats the time and place

So I guess the 100k to 150k IU's of D I take DAILY is to much? Maybe I should be worried about becoming toxic and consider revising back to a RNY! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT! Seriously, shit it ain't no wonder you hear the complaints from some people that are a bit farther out from their RNY being tired, run down, etc. With advice like this WLS patients would quickly become the walking dead…… Some of these NUTs should be taken out to pasture!!!!

The NUT from the hospital came in and said, "I have to be honest with you--I don't know ANYTHING about how to teach you what to eat for the DS. I know you'll need some more fat, and I know you'll need more protein. But really, I'm at a total loss." I appreciated her letting me know how ignorant she was. I HATED that the system isn't good enough to get some people in here recommending GOOD information about nutrition.

I shudder when I think of DSrs who don't have access to the vice of reason from vets

And for yet another time, I am so grateful to have found the advice and information on this board.

I thank you all that helped me understand my needs before my surgery so I could just learn to ignore my nut. Crazy stuff. I wish I could help the other DSers around me see that they need to do outside research, I just smile and nod, like -are you kidding me? you are going to kill yourself slowly. Do your research!
