Okay, here's a picture at this link: www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1550728912002791Medical peeps, please come help me out! I'll start to attempt to explain the questions/issues that are potentially scary about this and hope for the medical folks to get it straighter . When you look at that drawing, first remember that it is NOT REAL. It's an illustration and it is way too simple to give much information about the complexities of digestion, k? I think it might look attractive compared to the "more complicated looking" images of the DS configuration if you have no other real information to go on. Did you notice earlier in the thread, and in our other discussions about it, the question of bile reflux has come up? In this illustration, you could think that hey, it's simple. The stuff leaves your stomach and goes down the part of the small intestine where it's connected. Well, yeah, that's true.... BUT what is preventing the bile from the REST of the small intestine from going back toward your stomach? That's one concern. Another concern is that you have a very long common channel, 250 cm in this example. Food is absorbed from the stomach exit all the way down. Then there's the question of which parts of the small intestine are in contact with food and how that affects what gets absorbed. I don't know much about that and will have to leave that subject for anatomically educated folks .
