As Dser's is it safe for us to sell our plasma? I am almost 3 months out.

You are going to be working your tail off to keep your body healthy and nourished why would you want to give up any of that to someone else for a few bucks. The only way I would give blood or blood product of mine is to one of my children or husband, thats it. No one else is worth risking my nutritional health for.

Ok, I knew you all would know the answer. I shall find another way to make some cash between now and Labor Day. I am a stay at home mom and do not bring income into the family, but contribute in other ways in large portions.

But, why?
Plasma is different than giving blood.
You can give plasma several times a week.
I'm not arguing, just curious.

Today, I was reading Gone Girl and there's mention of some women selling plasma for "pin money". Out of curiosity, it made me stop and wonder if DSer's could donate or if it was one of those oddities like diving face-first into a bag of Cool Ranch Doritos that is now off-limits.
Fun story: I've donated blood before, but never sold any body products. In the USAF, my roomie and me were planning to hit the club on-base that night, but we're both a little strapped for cash and we were INDEPENDENT WOMEN with no need for conning guys out of drinks. There was an ad we saw to SELL our blood or plasma (don't remember now). We thought we were geniuses: obtain cash quickly and maybe catch a buzz quicker and less expensively since we'd just given blood/plasma and that might have some effect combined with alcohol.
We went looking for the place, but just couldn't find it. Then we scrapped everything, rented movies, ordered Chinese, and grabbed beer to drink "illegally" in our dorm instead since that plan was WAY more bang for our buck! I wonder if she ever thinks about that night, so funny.

It MAY be safe to donate plasma as opposed to NEVER, EVER donating blood, but at 3 months post op I would recommend not doing it unless it's medically necessary IF it is safe for DSers (for whatever reason). Check with your surgeon.

I'm not actually sure about whether it'd be safe further out, but I do know that I wouldn't do it the first year. It removes a lot of liquid and protein from your body and I definitely wouldn't donate until you can replenish those parts of your blood quickly and easily. I'm not sure of the effect this would have on vitamin levels and whether that is a good idea or not.

I wholeheartedly agree, absolutely not at three months out.
And never blood.
But, I'm ignorant about plasma and was curious in general about it.

With this hemochromatosis i have to have phlebotomy every week until my ferritin drops. What is my body losing that I need to ensure I replenish? Other than liquids, off course. And wondering how much i should increase that too.....
