I should have thought about this one before doing it.
My husband and I just spent a few days out of town. I ate A LOT of food, and mostly different things from my normal routine. One night at the hotel I had horrible heartburn, the likes of which I haven't had since I was a newbie DS'er.
It was the middle of the night, and I went down to the hotel gift shop to see if they had any Pepcid, Tums, something like that. The only thing I found was chewable tablets of Pepto Bismol. OK, I thought it would work, so I bought it.
Without thinking, I went back to the room, took 2 as per the directions, drank some water, and went to bed.
Within minutes, my stomach felt like I ate an entire side of beef. You know that pressure you get in your throat, if you're OMG I ate too much? It was that times 100. My stomach felt like that Violet girl in Willie Womka that blew up into a blueberry. Seriously, I thought I was going to have to go to the ER. I even tried to make myself vomit, but couldn't.
Thinking about it, I'm sure the 2 pill recommended dosage is for someone with a normal stomach, not someone with a sleeve. It didn't even dawn on me. I thought about the commercial where it says that it "coats, soothes, and relieves". Those little pills must dissolve into pink goo that coats your stomach, only mine had no where to go and blew up in my stomach <- at least that's my theory.
It was a very uncomfortable, painful, hard to breathe 20-30 minutes, but it finally passed.
I should have known better about the dosage, but thought this was worth sharing should any of you find yourself in a similar situation.

Thanks and exalt for sharing. I've never had pepto before, but I'll seriously try and remember that, as your experience didn't sound good at all!

Wow!!! I never would have thought that would happen! Note to self--no Pepto. Thanks for sharing!

Hmm. I was in the same boat while traveling and took a Pepto that I got from the hotel. I only took one but I was fine. That's interesting!

Granted I usually take the liquid form, not the chewable form but I've never had any issues with Pepto--other than the inevitable black poo. And I regularly suggest it to others, so thanks for this so I can throw it in as a caveat.
We had a new post-op once take Alka-Seltzer without thinking. THAT was a whole new world of pain.

Never ceases to amaze me the detail of the stuff we have to pay attention to!

I think the issue was the pill form, and that I took two. They must expand to coat your stomach, and two being the amount that would coat a normal stomach. If I had to do it again, I'd start with half a chewable pill - or find the liquid form and adjust. I think the lesson is to remember that recommended dosage for a gastric related medication does not apply to us.

A full dose of liquid has never bothered me but I don't use it often. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a filler in the chewables.

What's the reason you pulled it up and reposted?
