Hi Everyone, I've been on this journey for 4 1/2 years and for most of it I've been pretty compliant. Lately, though, I've slipped. I'm OK with my food choices - I do need to stay on top of the daily protein count but my weight is stable. I contribute that mostly to being gluten free which greatly reduces my carb count. My main concern, though, is the vitamins. I've had some major life changes and moved across country in the last month and the vits just kinda slipped right out of my daily routine. So here I am, pledging to post daily until I get back on track! I'm so glad we have this place where we can share struggles and get support from folks who understand. So, here's yesterday's schedule (last day of being bad, I swear!) Breakfast: protein shake w 1c milk, 1/2 banana & ice. 2 c tea, 2 slices gf toast w lotsa butter snack: 1c potato chips, 2oz cheddar cheese 1 of 3 vit sets: calcium, multi, vit A, vit D, B complex, vit E snack: rice crispie snack lunch: ginger beef w broccoli snack: carrots & ranch dip, 1 oz beef jerky 60oz water @ work 2 of 3 vit sets1 bite softserve ice cream (stole it from the hubby) 20 oz water @ home dinner: 6oz sesame chicken (made at home, no breading), 1/2c rice, 3/4c edamame snack: 2oz cheddar I'm guessing I had 130g protein which is much closer to my goal of 150g than usual! We'll see how today goes....

Yay you Jessica! Posting about it increases awareness of what we put in our mouths.
I had a cranky belly day yesterday. Posted too early that my eject button experience was all behind me except for an offended sinus cavity. So it was a soup and saltines day for me. I am very grateful I didn't blow up like a balloon and have no idea what prevented it *blech*. Today seems to be starting out normal, but I have my fingers crossed.

EN, Sorry to hear about the cranky belly. I haven't thrown up in years but I've noticed an increase in GERD which leads to that same sinus cavity problem in the morning. I hope you had a better day yesterday!
Here's Saturday's report:
Breakfast 1: tea & gf toast w lotsa butter Breakfast 2: 2 scrambled eggs & cheese, 2 bacon set 1 of 3 vits: multi, calcium, b complex, vit A, D, & E Lunch: hamburger patty, spinach dip & chips, top off of 2 pizza slices, 1 onion ring, french fries snacks during afternoon: 2 pepperoni sticks, 3oz cheddar cheese, carrot sticks, 2oz chocolate covered raisins late dinner: double cheeseburger w/o bun, french fies
Yesterday was an unsettling day as we spent the afternoon at my brother-in-law's wake. I'm estimating I got 140 g of protein and 120ml of water. Luckily I packed snacks but I didn't do well with the vits.

Monday's report:

Forgot my evening vits AGAIN :-( I'm setting an alarm on my phone to see if that helps me get into the habit. I'm estimating I got 105g of protein and all my water in for the day.

Sometimes even "perfect" *snort cackle* people like me abandon "perfect" compliance in favor of yumminess. I am enjoying Santagria, a lovely beverage resembling sangria made into hot mulled wine, and kettle corn. Of course, I'm going to be home alone tomorrow . (And I've hadd my 100 grams of protein for the day. So bring on the GAS.)

Well on that note, I am at a fraternity weekend, like 300 plus guys. I loaded on protein this morning before coming out, I did not well prepare for my graze but I did pretty well. I need to tighten it up for tommorow, but not a bad test drIve of the new plumbing, all in all. K

I am going to post cause I need to whoop my own ass. The last 2 days have been an emotional roller coaster with my daughter and I have not been taking care of me dealing with her issues. I know I still need to get my vitamins in and my protein in but the stress has me hardly eating anything. Hopefully once I get her back home and things are back to normal I will be able to get myself out of this funk.

Thanks EN I never thought stress would mess with me this bad, and I have had my fair share of it since my DS but I have found when it comes to my kids I go into a must do everything I can for them at the cost of myself, it almost seams like that stress makes me regress and I have to work on that. On the plus side I managed to get all my vitamins in and much more protein, even going to force myself to choke down a shake. Still way too much carbage but I will take the small victories right now.

Stella, If you don't take care of you, you CAN'T be there for them, kind of like why the airlines keep telling you to use the mask first!
I had a tough time with this week end. I decided to introduce some GOOD carbs while away maybe rationalizing but my BMI is now 27 (holy shit!) and I am thinking 3 lb losses are prob more than I should be having now etc... Besides I wanted the half slice of whole wheat toast SLATHERED (love that word!) with butter! A little gas issue but none the worse fo the wear. However ended up with major GERD issues, with not so much vomiting as dumping extra food? prob over eating Started this but once it happens nothing stays down well for a couple of days. I am sure I ended up lite in protein since a lot of it came back out. It has been a few weeks since I had an episode like that. Planning to see my gastro about this and eww a colonoscopy.
I left the weekend early for my great niece's baby naming. Food rough but to my utter surprise I kept it all down today. Thanks for helping me get this clear in MY head. Kenny

Kenny, chill on the weight. Bounceback will happen. Yes, you can get the "eject button" phenomenon where you body will reject excess stomach contents. SLOWWWW DOWWWN..... When it happens, you basically have to endure a case of irritation-type gastritis (especially with reflux added in) for a bit. BTDT.

Que pasa, mis amigos?
It has been freakin' AGES since I've been on any of the DS boards - I can go into detail why if anyone is particularly interested - but, I am so pleased to see familiar faces here from the "other site" where I first learned about the DS back in 2009.
September 27th, 2009: Went under the knife in NC at 318#. Today, I am at 200# with a low of 178#. Some recent infections and allergic reactions led to steroid and antibiotic dosages that caused a host of issues, including weight gain. I am not a happy camper, so I'm doubling down, here. If y'all don't mind, I'd like to join your little legion of Compliance and Accountability. I'd be happy to share what I have from MyFitnessPal with anyone who wishes to be a taskmaster, as well. I have no lost sight of my goal of 150# and a size 10 US.
...not sure what else to put here, aside from the fact that breakfast this morning was a mess of bacon and a SF latte. Later this week, I'll try a SF latte made with whipping cream, I think.

Bwahahahahahaha!!! *HUGS* Oddly enough, the Abx are what seemed to have given me the kick in the nuts. I was holding at a slight gain until my last Augmentin dose. Climbed from a middlin' size 14 to nearly unable to fit in 16s. Ah, well. I'm rather pleased with today's macros so far, and will be diving into the fistful of pills shortly. How have you been?

I only had 50g carbs today. Lots of beef jerky while standing in queues helped.
Is it a problem that 40g of those carbs was in the form of a Snickers bar? I am going to sleep now, so the gas will be part of my dreams.

Oh, and I tried beef jerky for the first time last week and I am pleased to report that my new anatomy LOVES it. Yay and also YUM.

PGB, jerky here in South Africa is called biltong. I have a thread on it on the recipes board. It is air dried with a nice strip of fat along the side if you wish. I prefer mine slightly pink in the centre and thinly sliced. Good raw meat! If I get it at a good price, it comes in even cheaper than eggs. 100g gives me 40-50g protein. Love that it is a health food for me with all that buttery fat.
Concerning vitamins, I find that I have to get up for the loo some time through the night. If I missed a dose of vitamins, I take it then. First thing in the morning I take probiotics, thyroid and estrogen.
For the rest of your vitamins, would you rather take two doses together than miss one?

Yes I remember now....we discussed biltong on the other thread and I realized it is basically the same thing as Braseola here in the States, which I eat A LOT and have been tolerating beautifully for a few months now. I dunk my tender thin slices in olive oil and seasoned balsamic vinegar. It just melts in your mouth. Yum! I'm glad that I now can also eat traditional beef jerky since they carry it in every convenient store. It makes for awesome protein snacks on the fly.

Yesterday's update - a bit short on water and vites (will work on both today), but carbs were kept at a net of 21, although calories from fat and protein were absolutely sky high before taking in the malabsorbtion effect. I'm really having doubts that my fat/pro rate is at 20/50% like it was in the beginning and am considering starting to fudge with my macros accordingly. I wish there was an easy way to know exactly what I'm absorbing. Ah, well.

By nature I often think(thought) what if the Dr. Did not really do a DS? What if the CC is the wrong length? Stomach too big? (hoped for small, glad he did whatever he did) and my absorptions were all skewed? I have no definitive answers about any of this except that, damn this thing works! My only advice is do what you truly know you are supposed to and let it all work out! Just my 2¢! Kenny

I have to think the doc did a true DS, not just because of his reputation but because of the excellent weight loss I've enjoyed plus the side effects that come with DS (and none of the ones that come with RNY). Yesterday's carbs were at 21 net, today's so far are at 23 and won't get much higher, so I'm doing what I can. We'll see what happens, right?!

Yep! All you can do is make the changes here and there and see what happens. I totally agree!

LOL, sorry to even suggest it was not a true DS! I was talking strictly about me. My doctor had mentioned a two-stage he had also mentioned if he could not do it he would just do the sleeve. I made it quite clear if he could not to the full DS just close me back up! Trust me this is my own insanity he did a fantastic job my weight-loss my lack of comorbidities are all textbook perfect. If I can manage to stay on top of my vitamins I could not possibly have a better experience. Kenny

If you keep the carbs way low for a while and nothing happens, then adjusting the other stuff might be a reasonable thing to try. Another thing to consider is that the net carb voodoo might not be valid for you. I can think of quite a few diabetics who report that those "non net" carbs mess with their blood sugar just like "regular" carbs do.
