Okay, I feel I need to post here because the depression I think is causing me to purposefully make bad choices. So I'm going to stop my "I feel awful, hate this DS" pity party and start to do everything I can to get healthy. Hopefully this accountability will make me make better choices. Protein decaf coffee with 30gms Whey Protein Powder and a little bit of heavy cream Half of a scooped out bagel (tiny bagel, not the giant bakery kind) with cheese Cheeseburger (just patty and 2 slices of American melted on top - no bread or toppings) Slice of pizza with extra cheese and extra meat (I know, I know, too many carbs) Slice of ham and a protein shake Only about 30 oz of liquid in today, working on that. Vites all in thus far. Shoot, no they aren't, forgot my mid day multi. Dang it, going to get that now. Sigh.... This DS is work!

****hugs**** Yep, it is work! Life will be better with it, though. I have high hopes for you . If you are not getting that depression treated, get your buns to psychiatry and therapy, y'hear? Meds plus mind changing. That's the ticket.

Have an appointment tomorrow at 3:30. Thanks so much EN. I'm going to get this thing worked out. I've been in a feeling of overwhelming helplessness, like I was a passenger on a runaway bus, for a while now. But I got up, put my big girl panties on and I've decided that I'm taking charge. I might not ultimately be able to fix these issues, but damn it I'll die trying.

My therapist moved me to 4:30 (the nerve) so I figured since I had a minute, I'd log in. Pretty good today so far:
Breakfast was 2 sausage links and a double scoop protein coffee with 30gms protein per scoop Snack handful of pistachios Lunch was Spicy Thai Tuna (om nom nom) and 2 Ritz Crackers Snack (ok, second lunch) was a cheeseburger, no bun, with two slices of cheese Dinner is going to be Beer Butt Chicken with spinach salad (spinach, bacon and walnuts with lemon dressing) and grilled summer squash (because nothing I've eaten today was any color but brown).
All vites in thus far but only 24 oz of water. Working on that one, should be able to catch up. 119 gms of protein in before dinner. Yay me!
Dang it! Forgot my afternoon multi again. Grabbing it as I walk out the door....

Being only 17 days away form surgery, I'm joining this thread now. I've established my Vite routine, I'm eating protien before anything else, I'm drinking my water, and getting some exercise as I have time.
I figure that if I start now and get into the habit, it will be easier to get back on track after the surgery. I also get the benifit of keeping EN of my butt, lol.. just kidding, but she is ia GREAT motivator.
So, in a nutshell. here;s my daily schedule right now.
6am, 500mg Calcium + 5000UI D3 9am, Centrum Multi and 100mg B1 4pm, 500mg Calcium 9pm, 500mg Calcium
I've been getting my 64+ oz of water in + whatever else I drink. My exercise has slacked today due to having a bad back ache since the Wed. Not sure what I did, Thought is could be kidneys, but I'm having no other problems in that dept (plus all the water, can't see how I would).
I will be getting a group of pre-op labs done on the 22nd, and I will get a copy of my labs send to me from my surgeons office that I had done in March so I can see how well my D and Calcium have come up.
What else should I be doing? I did the balloon exercises a few times, but gave up on that because it was easy for me to do.

Were all your other labs good, preferably on the high side?
Just start low carbing of you haven't already. Exercise is good, you want to be in the best condition pre op that you can.

Haven't seen my labs yet, but am requesting them. PC advised that my D and calcium are low, so attempting to get that up. B1 for pre-surgery.

100 MILLIGRAMS of B1 daily? That sounds like an awful lot of thiamine unless you have some kind of serious problem.

Yep, thats whats on my pre-surgery sheet. 100mg daily B1. The PharmD sent mail telling to take certain things at certain times, and I am following it to the letter.
Today, my back pain is worse. I can't tell if it's kidneys or just back pain.
I,m stopping my vites for a day, and see if anything changes. If somthing does, I'll add vites back in one at a time to see if I get the symptom back.

Wowzers *gulp*. But hey, I'm not a doctor and I don't know my B's nearly as well as I know my fat solubles, so I'll shut up while I'm ahead .

I did some quick research on B1, and it seems that it is not that hard to OD on it, BUT, at the same time, the effects of an OD of thiamin do NOT include warnings for the kidneys. Seems as though 300mg daily is about as high as you want to go safely. Stores sell 100mg tablets and 250mg tablets, nothing bigger, so it makes sense to me.

Nope, thiamine OD would have neurological symptoms, I believe.

Wow that is a lot of B1. I didn't even catch that. Did you have a deficiency?
It is rather difficult to OD, but it acts sort of like a diuretic and if you are having kidney problems, you might be having issues eliminating the vitamin. Also, it can actually lead to deficiencies in other B vitamins, B6 for sure and maybe B2? I forget.
Could it be possible that the order was for MICROGRAMS and not MILLIGRAMS? (mcg vs mg).
I'm not a doctor but that seems like a lot..

And thiamine OD includes anxiety but more heart related symptoms. But it's pretty rare.

I got a shot of thiamine a few months ago when I couldn't stop throwing up. For 2 solid weeks I thought I was dying. I threw up everything. The thiamine fixed me right up... the next day I felt like a million bucks. I asked the surgeon if I should take additional thiamine and he said that what was in my multi's was probably enough, but if I wanted to it wouldn't hurt because I'd pee out any extra. I didn't start taking it because I've felt fabulous ever since then, and the illness wasn't caused by a thiamine deficiency... the illness caused the thiamine deficiency (it was a bug that my son brought home from school and passed on to me), then the thiamine deficiency kept me from getting better. It was a vicious cycle.

I wasn't very compliant this weekend, but I had reasons. Friday I started in with some unexplained low back and hip pain. Still have the hip pain today, but 500mg of Naproxen helps IMMENSELY. The pain lasted all the way through the weekend and thru my doctors appoinitment yesterday.
I started to think for a while that I was (or have) getting stones, but not all the symptoms lined up. Then I thought maybe a UTI (kindey infection, as I was peeing just fine.). I went to the doc yesterday, did a urinalysis.
Nothing found, no blood, no infection, Nothin'.... I have a CT scheduled for Thursday. if the pain does not subside on it's own, I will have it. Right now, seems to be better than yesterday, but still have pain when moving alot. and it's non-postional, happens standing sitting or lying down.
As a result, I did not take any of my Vites Saturday, Sunday, or monday due to not knowing if I was have a symptom of over supplementing or not.
I have returned to my schedule today, and will see if my pain gets worse again.

GROAN. Second day back in NJ, and between the funky climate (not horribly hot, but boy am I feeling the higher humidity) and being suddenly BUSY like a freak, I'm behind the eight ball twice in a row on protein. Only hit 70 grams yesterday and am at 80 now. I was astonished to look around yesterday and suddenly it was 11:30 at night!
Off to munch on cheese and quaff some powder. At least this time Mr. EN didn't consume all my protein powder in my absence LOL.

He does some very weird things sometimes. So I just told him my nutraceuticals were as off limits as my medications, and that seems to have stuck .

Well, my back and hip pain have subsided somewhat, but I still have the hip pain first thing in the morning. I am starting to wonder about my bed.
Anyway, Vitamins in on schedule. got 200g of protien ( I'm still pre-op) and under 100 carbs. I'm not counting fat or calories, and I am losing a little weight. 293 this morning. I have switched up and starting drinking low cal gatoraide fearing that I am not getting enough electorlytes in my plain old water.
I'm also making choices that are a little higher in salt to help make sure I'm using the fluids I'm drinking.
Pre-op testing done on Wednesday, Nutrition class and final consult the 28th. I am SO hoping that I can figure out this hip pain by then, since I will be off of NSAIDS 7 days before, and for a while after.
I'm calling my surgeons office today to see if they got my pre-op bloodwork sheet in so they can fax it to me.
I got my labs from March, it all looked good, mid to high on all of it except for Vite D. (which I have been supping for 5 months now.)
My next post here may be after my surgery. Wish me luck!..
11 days to go.

Hmmm. Do you use a pillow or something under your knees? That helps my sore hip and low back considerably.
Also, one of my many PT's along the way advised me to do a good hamstring stretch before getting out of bed, and that helps me a LOT. Extend your leg, locking your knee, and pull it up as high as you can, using a towel to extend your reach if necessary, until you feel the stretch all the way from butt cheek to heel. Pull your toes in toward your knee to be sure you're stretching the right spots. Hold for thirty seconds, do the other side, work up to five reps per leg over a period of time.

I'm gonna try and do this. Although I have been a carb addicted Poodle in the past, I really have been trying to do better. I host an organic produce co-op at my home now. I eat pastured chicken and eggs, grass fed beef, organic beans, and organic fruits/veggies. Even have access to Raw milk, although it seems to hurt my stomach, so I don't drink it much. It is good for ADHD, so I give it to my hyper kid. We don't do artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives like the Feingold program recommends.
This is my DH birthday weekend, so we have been eating out alot. I'm also walking a thin line. My WLS DR says my total protein is fine, but one of the levels is low. He noticed my ankles are swollen, and says this is from low protein. He read the ingredient list from my Garden of Life RAW Protein and said it was fine. It has added ADEK, and he thinks that is why my other levels are good. My A is a little low, but only on low end of normal, not out of range. My Kidney doctor says not to get too much protein or calcium or I will get kidney stones. So, I can be screwed either way. But here are my last few days: Thursday: Starbucks coffee with splenda and cream Two fried chicken thighs from Golden Chick, most of crust removed. Roast/Beans/Carrots RAW protein shake
Friday: Folgers coffee with artificial creamer and splenda 2 boiled eggs (they are easy breakfast things) 1 cheese stick About 5 oz Roast and 1/3 cup Beans with sour cream and cheese Chicken Thighs (2), Chicken Wings (2), small Avacado and sour cream. Swear I attacked that chicken right out of the crock pot. 1 RAW Protein Shake Yogi Detox tea with Stevia All 101 oz water (about half of it had lemon juice in it, Per Kidney Dr. instructions.)
From Yesterday: 2 boiled eggs Starbucks Coffee with Splenda, half and half. Tortilla Soup broth, 6 oz steak, 2 shrimp wrapped in bacon. Stuffed Mushrooms (2), Two bites of butter covered roll. I was totally stuffed. 1 RAW protein shake, 17 gr protein Manicotti and some meat stuffed thing... think it is called Cannilloni.
All 101 oz of water, some with lemon.
Today so far I have had water and a couple slices of Boars Head chicken. We are going to the Chinese buffet for lunch and I plan on having salt and pepper shrimp, and the mongolian grill steak/chicken/shrimp. I like the fried cream cheese things, so may have one of those.
Here is a question for you. What is the optimal carb/calorie goal for the day to maintain weight at 150? I look like a skeleton, 5ft 7 at size 8, so don't want to lose any more. I believe it is 50 carbs, but you know me, I would like conformation.

Have gone thru the posts before mine and have a recommendation for depression. In the movie Food Matters they talk about megadose vitamin therapy for depression. Origionally, AA recommended 3000 mg of Niacin to help people with their addiction. They found that the Niacin helped depression and even upped one woman to 10,000 mg a day to help her and it worked.
As for overdosing on vitamins, there are not alot of documented overdoses on vitamins. (I really recommend watching that movie, I found it on Netflix.) There are thousands of documented reports of death from medication overdoses and interactions. I was almost in that count last January. Makes me respect medication and self research a lot more.
