Drat... I was hoping for 5 incisions. My sleeve was meant to be 5 and I ended up with 6 due to adhesions (not due to a previous surgery, some people just have adhesions for no particular reason). I'm gonna look like a pin cushion LOL!!

This is the video that my surgeon showed me. I still have it saved as a favorite and I show it to friends and family when they ask about it. Simple and to the point.

Visuals are the best way to learn at a glance, with 2 color flowing through the system. Thanks Kel ;-)

I noticed early on in the video they had six incisions. SIX? So I will have laprascopic "marks" going around in circle like that visible when I take my shirt off? I had marks like that before that faded over time from a cosmetic procedure, but not in a noticable way like that. Is this what happens? Does anyone have pictures of their stomach/chest area post-surgery?

I assume you had the same with your Lapband? They will fade in time. I'm very fair skinned and you can see mine, somewhat. They don't bother me at all. I'd MUCH rather have them than my old body. Here, I just snapped a picture of my tummy for you on my webcam. Keep in mind my incisions are a bit lower now because I had a tummy tuck that pulled my skin down. They were a few inches higher, but this will give you an idea of what they will look like after they heal and fade.

I call my belly my battleship. I have 12 scars, 6 from lapband and 6 from revision to DS and trust me i would take double that number! I dont know about you (and im smaller on the top to start with) but my stomach is not pretty to begin with! I dont get why people obsess with how many scars they will have...you are getting a whole new life!
Joanne your tummy looks great!!!

I had 3-4 small scars from a lap gallbladder removal, a large scar from open surgery to remove an ectopic pregnancy, another one near it from an open hysterectomy, more little scars from a lap tubal ligation, and then my DS. Not to mention a zillion deep red stretch marks that went up past my belly button and felt like a relief map. Plastic survey chopped it all off, and gave me a new belly button. The tops of the stretch marks that were the highest are now down around my bikini line, but that's all that's left.

I'm with honey badger. I had lap band incisions then had open DS. My belly is a mess. Although I think about it sometimes I am still thankful for what I've gained and won't complain.

I've only got 4 incisions, plus the small mark where my JP drain was. However, my surgeon does a large incision in the neighborhood of the bellybutton where he does the majority of the laparoscopic manipulation. So I'll probably have a noticeable scar there. Doesn't really matter to me though.

I am a Dr. Rabkin patient too. At 3 1/2 years out, I have to search for all but one scar. (it looks like a little mosquito bite) My belly button incision was nearly four inches long but it has pretty much disappeared. I am older and thought I wouldn't have such successful healing. I would take all my incisions showing in exchange for my new found health.

I have 6 incisions, none of them more than an 1.5 inches. The scaring doesn't bug me at all. They can give me more scars if that is the cost for the benefits of the DS. (but. i'm a guy, and ladies dig scars on guys!!, I'm also married, so I wouldn't really know anymore..)

How does the bile get into the top of the intestine if it's no longer connected to anything? Is bile just absorbed through the intestine? So it's floating around inside us? Silly questions I'm sure but I don't understand that part.

The bile duct is maintained in the biliopancreatic limb, meaning that bile goes down the same path as pre-surgery, but doesn't mix with food until it reaches the common channel.

I am hoping this helps me out since I had my Gallbladder removed a year ago. Right now I have bathroom urgency and frequency issues because the bile just dumps....I hope the rerouting helps to reregulate that a bit. BTW, you look awesome in your picture, but do me a favor and take another one with you smiling because I don't recognize you not smiling.

Actually I don't have as much urgency as I did, other than when I was out all night for my 30th class reunion (yes 2 buddies of mine and I polished off a bottle of Canadian Club Whiskey & Ginger Ale then we went up to one of the local bars and had a lot more). I went to bed about 6AM and 30 minutes later woke up and nearly shit myself....I went several more times over the next few hours. Normally I do go a couple times in the morning and maybe once or twice the rest of the day. Probably average 4-7 dumps a day....not a big deal though.

Better than not going at all ... Maybe I'm eating so why am I not going!! Grrrrr! You aren't still taking pain meds are you? Those can constipate. I am also told that Iron can constipate, but I don't know if you have started that supplement or not. Add a bunch of mayo to some tuna or drink a shot of olive oil....that can help get things going. Walking also helps.

I hear you....try some heavy cream by itself or in coffee if drinking coffee yet. melt some butter and put in something you are eating. Also the more you can drink the better. Just a few suggestions that might be more palatable BTW, are you at regular food stage yet? If so, bacon and sunny side up eggs are a great option if you can do those yet. I know it is hard in the beginning, but those get things going for me. Good luck, and wow on the 2 miles a day. Good job.

Thanks I will try those. Tomorrow begins my second week of puréed foods. I'm so over it! I can't wait for eggs and bacon 2 more weeks to go. Thanks on the walking. I hope it helps tone me up and lose even quicker. Summer is close!

I hope it helps tone me up and lose even quicker. Summer is close! Yeah, pureed foods were the worst for me because everything smelled really gross and seemed even worse when I pureed it. My sense of smell seemed like it increased 1,000 fold for the first few months after surgery. You will get there soon.
