It is wonderful that you are so adventurous, but I worry that you are putting your health on the back burner when it should be your topmost priority: I will need a miracle to pay for all my vitamins. If this is the case, then you should not go until you have enough vitamins in hand to cover the duration and extra to cover the time it will take to get replacements in hand when you run out. Protein and vitamins are not optional and neglecting them can lead to life threatening health issues. I would feel so much happier and less worried for you if you had your protein and vitamin supply nailed down before you left.

Leonie, so happy for you, the next few weeks will be crazy for you. Nice you are following your dreams and getting out of the rat race. A few suggestions, make sure your lab work is excellent. Bring vitamins with you, especially the ADEKs that are hard to find, if you cant find calcium take that with you also, anything else that may be difficult to come by there. Can you fly back "home" once a year to have blood work and pack up on vit/mins. ok so steak is gone, but eat other protein, not sure snake? tastes like chicken? have a great time!!!

Leonie,
Just wanted to say the best of luck to you on your new journey! I'm very excited for this part of your life you are about to embark on with your husband. I know you have got to be a little nervous but as long as you heed the advice, above me regarding vitamins and bloodwork, I think you will be fine!
Enjoy the next part of your life and jump on the internet when you can to update us!
Good luck, Kelly

Thanks for all the lovely responses. I appreciate your concern. And fully share it.
We will be staying in suburban Cape Town, and there is a mall right across the road, so access to food and meds is no problem. Getting some of my DS specific vitamins is always a challenge, as I have to import it in any way. Fortunately I do still have a bit from the last order. The organisation also has strong links with the USA, so I am sure it will actually be easier to get a delivery.
Finances is tricky, but we are very positive about the sale of our house and it will generate quite a large profit. Timing might be an issue, but we have very good backup systems.
I am going for my 3 year labs tomorrow morning, (2 months early) and the iron infusion is scheduled for Friday.
I will definitely keep you posted.

I had a friend [who had the DS] who goes to CT a couple of times a year. She always feels better when she's there, she said. Something about the sun, weather and getting out of the cold. Good luck.
