My original Doctor no longer in in network with Tricare. I have to switch doctors. I already found one, closer to my house and takes new tricare patients. Just out of curiosity I asked how much self pay fills are. They charge 198 dollars.. Holy cannoli ! I sure am glad hubby spend 20 years in the Army,

$198 is well within the range. 100/min. for 2 minutes work of work. I think most of us here chose the wrong profession, lol.

That is insane. This is one of the reasons I think the band is one of the poorest choices for self-pays. Glad you are covered!

I'm still doing well, and had no problems finding a new doc.. Tricare has one in the program that is closer and more convenient to me. Since I already have the band I don't have to worry about his skills. I'm thinking he can find the port ! I haven't used his services yet.

The funny thing about these self-pay prices is those are much higher numbers than what the doctors actually get paid when it's through insurance. Mine was $350 for fills if no coverage, but when I had coverage I saw on the EOB's that he would get like $70 for the adjustment. Half the reason you need insurance is to just get the benefit of their contracted prices instead of "self pay" prices to the public not negotiated by big insurance.
Anyway, I no longer worry about that since my band is now completely emtpied and needs to come out. :/
