All along, I've been planning to have a lap band to DS revision in one step. But now, I'm considering accepting a new job offer which will push back my surgery anywhere from 8 months to a year while I save up enough paid time off for the recovery period. I'm starting to wonder if I should try to get my lap band removed during that time. I'd really hate to develop a slip or an erosion. My swallowing problems with the band have been documented by my surgeon, so I don't think I'd have a problem getting insurance coverage to have it removed. What do you folks think?
Is band removal an outpatient surgery? How much time off work do you need?
Thanks, Shelli

The worst part is where the port was. That hurts like a buggar for a couple of weeks when you are getting in or out of a chair, bed, car, etc. I can tell you that when I had my band to sleeve revision I was back at work on day #5, the day after I got home from the hospital.

Shelli what did u decide to do about postponing your DS? You've waited so long to have it, I'd hate to see you have to wait any longer. :-(

band removal is outpatient & the only discomfort really is where the port was, as mentioned above.
if your experiencing problems with swallowing, i would contact your insurance and ask will they pay for a removal & then a revision at a later date.
optimally you want to do this in one procedure, but many of us had to do it in 2 because of band damage & the need to let your body heal some.
good luck!

UPDATE: I turned down the job offer. I also won my Level 2 insurance appeal, which was a huge shock. I'm finally having a lap band to DS revision (in one step) on May 11. :-)
