I have a question.....so we are suppose to avoid the bad carbs, but we can have beans since they are good carbs? All of this "good" food and "bad" food gets confusing!

Also, I have a question about the snacking. My doctor told me to eat 2 snacks a day since I eat so little and that will help keep my metabolism up. Is this for just now while my malabsorption is working? Do I need to cut those out now or later down the line?

I found my doctor's guidelines are just that, guidelines. I need to find what works best for me. When I was losing weight I ate 4 times a day. Well, 2 of those meals were protein drinks. I had one for breakfast and another in the evening. To this day I don't like to eat in the morning. Then I had lunch and dinner. I kept my carbs around 50 grams and completely avoided refined carbs. The only carbs I really had were from dairy, beans and fruits and vegetables. I don't think I had any grains for quite a while. These things work for me. They may not be right for you. I also reserve the right to change the way I eat over time to adapt to any changes in my lifestyle and goals. After I reached goal weight I needed to up my calories. Because I still can't eat a lot that meant that I ate more often. Now I eat about 7 times a day. I also added some more higher calories foods like healthy fats and whole grains. It's all about being flexible for me, along with having some hard and fast rules I stick to, like no sugar or gluten. Outside of that it's pretty much anything goes. I also don't drink for 30 minutes after I eat, although I do drink right up to when I eat. Otherwise I probably wouldn't be able to eat enough.

Thanks for the advice. I guess i have to find my own "groove" in my journey. I generally just do the protein for breakfast since I am not a breakfast person either. But I think I will cut out one of my snacks now that I am on solid food.

As a rule, I avoid "processed" carbs like sugar and white flour. I do occasionally treat myself though. Natural carbs from vegetables, whole grains and fruit are very healthy. Over time you will find out how much your body can tolerate. It's a very individual thing.

My surgeon suggest no snacks and no protein drinks. He feels we should be able to absorb all our protein from food. This is not the case for me tho. Several times in the hospital he prescribed protein drinks for me. So I will occasionally drink one.
I have noticed that on days where I eat a good healthy breakfast I seem to need supplementation much less. So I have tried to eat a good healthy breakfast most days. I do eat carbs for breakfast tho. So devise your own menu's. I love my life now. So much better than before!!!

After that, I eat a boiled egg and 1/2 cup oatmeal for breakfast.
