Will this fun never end? ? Just another bump in my recovery. For the last 4-5 days my JP drain tube has just BURNED SO BADLY....((Yes, Dr. K is aware of this)) but I have just dealt with my misery. Everytime I would move, breathe, heck, think. It hurt & burned. Yesterday, I woke up at 3am, and was still in pain (no pain meds since I got on the plane in California to come home~2 weeks ago), cleaned up around where the drain comes out of me & saw pus. So, I went to the ER, and not only is my JP drain site infected, but my incision is as well. So, I have been given antibiotics, and I go to the wound clinic tomorrow. -Jamie Murphy & his Law can go find someone else to go hang around!!!!

I am so sorry to hear of these issues but I know you chose the DS to restore your health. Stay focused on the big picture. This too shall pass. Keep the faith. I know it is difficult right now but focus on your long term health. I am praying for your speedy (and from this point on) complication free recovery.

Ohhhh Jamie, I'm SO sorry to hear this! I wish you hadn't waited so long and suffered in silence, poor dear. I was wondering because hadn't seen you around much this week. I'm glad you're getting treated now and Dr. K is updated. I went through an experience like this after my RNY, I really empathize. Your attitude is great, but I know how hard it is, hang in there. You have my contact info so let me know if there's anything I can do, email or text me.

How does the incision and JP site get infected? Did you not want to stay in California? I know we talked about you about being there a short time but is this common?

Unfortunately, wound, drain infection is a hazard of any major surgery, and very often happen right in the hospital (mine did during my RNY in 2002). It's actually one of the reasons they don't like to keep you as long, especially with open incisions, because the longer the stay, the higher the risk of infection. If I remember correctly, Jamie was infection free when she was released?

I have no idea how the P drain site got infected. I look at it as, it is still an open wound, so it is fair game. I told Dr. K when I was there, if he wanted me to stay, I would whine, but I would stay. Got my ticket changeable for that reason..... so if I had to stay, I would.

Just the way it is.

Infections suck and they happen, a hazard of any surgery, and sometimes the wounds don't heal quickly. So sorry you got zinged, because as I said, I went through a fairly epic experience after my RNY, and was 100% grateful for a complication-free pass this time. I'm sure Dr. K was not concerned about infection at the time he released you, or he wouldn't have, he's way too methodical and watchful. You're attitude is fantastic and you have an open door to hollah anytime, please don't ever wait so long again, promise!

Ohhh I was just wondering because Dr. K's office told me I need to stay for 7-10 days in the area so my surgery is on 2/22 and planned to stay until 3/7. I hope everything goes well. I didn't have a drain with my RNY so going home with a drain is something new to me.

I had 3 drains from my tummy tuck back in 2003, and did not have any problems, except that they all came out too early.

I didn't have a drain with my RNY so going home with a drain is something new to me. I stayed for 2 weeks after surgery but was released to go home at about day 12. We stayed to spend holiday time with family and because of the airfares. Yes, the drains are an " experience" but doable.

Jamie, so sorry you are going through this, but glad you were seen and started on antibiotics. Please be sure to keep Dr. K informed of all developments. It's tough that you are so far away, but hopefully the docs in Alaska will take good care of you.

Well balls . That sucks. I was kinda expecting this post after the other stuff you described, and I imagine you were kinda waiting for the shoe to drop, huh? ****hugs**** I'm glad you were seen and VERY glad you're getting into the wound clinic quickly. They can do miracles in those places. Here's hoping yours turns out to be nice and simple and heals up neatly and quickly with a minimum of yuckiness.

Have also sent pics of my JP drain, and a few photos of my incision, so he can have the visual.
