Hello everybody! I have been lurking over on OH for about six months and over here for the last few days. I have learned so much from all of you. Given that my surgery date is about a month away, I figured it was time to formally say hello. So, um, hello! ;D I suspect my story is pretty common. I've spent a lifetime dieting and when I finally realized that dieting doesn't work, I began to explore surgery as an option. The worst part is that in high school I weighed about 170 pounds. At 5'8", that just barely put me overweight, but certainly not obese. Then I made the biggest mistake of my life - I went on a diet. I lost about 20 pounds and then gained it all back eventually....plus 30 more pounds. I repeated that pattern over the next twenty years until I got to where I am now. Anyway, I look forward to chatting with you all. You're a great group!

Love your goal weight! My goal was similar. I had some, "It would be nice if I __________________, yet anything is better than where I started from" thoughts. Sure did cut a lot of stress out of my life.

I can so relate to the 'biggest mistake of your life' you decided to go on a diet. Damn, Ive lost track of how many times I made that mistake - however, I have not forgotten where all that dieting got me. To the tune of 401 lbs. There is no doubt in my mind I would not have lost the 233 lbs without weight loss surgery, and any small amount would come back three times heavier.
Welcome to the board.

I had Dr. Keshishian for my revision to DS on Dec 15, you will love him, he's a star. I wish I had been able to have the DS my first go around in 2002. I can relate, I spent half of my life dieting too. Nice to meet you!
