This is a great thread. I realize some days I can eat more than others and I am almost 4 months post-op.
B - Vanilla Unjury protein shake - 12oz S - 2 scrambled eggs with ham and cheese, 1/4th of wheat toast L - 1 chicken cutlet with fresh mozzarella and marinara sauce S - still full from lunch D - smothered pork chops

Maintaining @ 18 months out... B. 2 scoop protein coffee S. 2 cheese sticks S2. 2 Tb. Of peanut butter L. Cottage cheese (I have no idea how much. A small bowl full? S3. cheese popcorn. S4. 1 scoop protein hot chocolate D. I'm making chili. I'll have some (again, no idea how much?) with sour cream & cheese. I'm sure I'll eat something else before bed.
I've never measured. I just eat until I'm full. Some days it's a lot, some not very much. (I'm no help, am I?)

That's a lot of carbs. Are you getting in your 100g of protein per day? the QtrP w/cheese is 29grams, so your omelet and protein bar would need to total 71 grams- depending on what's in them it might not. Not trying to be the food police or anything, just want to make sure you're aware of the protein DSers need to eat per day. My protein bar had 30 grams and the omelet had 30+ grams. I'm one of the few that requires quite a few carbs to lose and feel good. When I low carb...I gain weight. Just like you! When I finally reached a normal BMI and settled there for a bit, I began loosening up carb-wise. I had super low carbed it for so long, I wanted to see if I could maintain the loss with some extra carbs. Imagine my surprise when the pounds started coming off. Me, the Stall Queen! I ended up losing another 17 pounds to get me to a low normal BMI where I have happily settled for the last year and a half.

To the OP: as long as it is protein or fat, there is no such thing as too much. Except what your stomach tells you is too much.

I feel like I'm ALWAYS eating something. Whether it's a meal, or a shake, or downing some vitamins...I feel like I'm constantly putting something in my mouth. Which is so weird compared to me before surgery. I was notorious for not eating breakfast, eating a small lunch, and then eating a huge dinner. I can't wait until I can have some normalcy when it comes to meals and that I can eat a bigger variety of things.

Here's what I eat at almost two years out:
Breakfast: three fried eggs Snack: 4oz cheese, 2oz salami Lunch: 1 cup tuna salad made with lots of mayo Snack: 1/2 cup pistachios Dinner: 8oz burger topped with illegal amounts of cheddar & bacon Snack: 1 cup premium ice cream (get the most bang for your buck!)

That's funny I think I eat a lot but I can't beat chad though I see more carbs on mine then his. I still can not do a full 8 oz burger. Me and ground beef don't get along sometimes.

Thank you for posting this! I feel that ive not ever had much restriciton. I have a 2oz sleeve. Ive always felt from the beginning that i eat a lot but i figure if im eating protein and fat and im losing then i must be ok. Ive lost 45lbs since surgery.
Im not quite 9 weeks out an this is what i eat:
Early: 2 slices of deli meat with my iron Snack: Protein shake B: 2 eggs, 2 sausage and handfull of cheese all scrambled together L: 12 med shrimp w cocktail sauce and 8 cheese cubes S: cashews or a babybel D: 3oz hamburger patty w cheese, mayo, ketchup, tomato and onion. Handful of panfried green beans w ranch (i dont always finish this or if i do it takes me over an hr to eat) S: Protein shake S: sometimes 2 SF PB cookies or other little SF sweet
I prefer to eat over an hr because i dont get hungry so fast. I cant go longer than 2-3 hrs w out eating or i start feeling nauseous.

I am in awe of your ability to eat a burger at two months out. I could eat hamburger in sauce or tacos, you know, loose like that, but it was a lot longer than that before I could eat an actual burger. I think I might have tolerated chicken breast before I tolerated a burger. I KNOW I was able to eat steak before burgers.

I havent really had any foods i cant tolerate comfortably eating (i can even eat a good sized salad loaded with egg, cheese and bacon:) Just cant do lactose or soy lecithin. I do use Bubba Burgers with are made outta chuck and quite greasy then i LOAD it down with mayo. Probably 3 Tbsp worth:) Ive dieted myself right out of most foods...can not even stomach the smell of tuna let alone eat it and chicken, eck! So ive been eating burger like no ones business! I even told hubs we need to do up some chicken for the week so i dont burn myself out on burger! You have made me feel so much better! I love cooking and eating now. Its just awesome to be able to eat delicious food and still have the LBS just fall off!

In chili or enchiladas, something with a LOT of sauce, I can do it. Other than that, it's tricky. I definitely tolerated chicken and steak before ground beef.

I believe my carbs are below 50 on most days. I pretty much stay away from them so any I get are in the very small amount of veges I eat. I do go out to eat with friends once a week and may have some carbs then in the form of french fries or fried pickles (breaded) but, that's not a usual thing. I suppose I should be tracking them more accurately. I don't always feel hungry, either, but I have felt that way sometime. There have also been a few times when I can eat more than a cup of food. When that happens, it scares me that I'm stretching my new stomach. The only food I've found I can't eat is milk (lactose). I seem to be ok with heavy cream, lactaid milk, and greek yogurt. However, I may also have some problem with simple carbs like white flour (white potatoes don't bother me). I'm still testing myself with the white flour products. However, I didn't eat much white flour product before surgery and don't plan to now, after surgery. OOOO FRIED PICKLES!!!! I'm by no means a carb Nazi, never was, and don't advocate for it. The few times I tracked my carb intake in the first few months, I almost never exceeded 100 grams per day and that worked fine for me. I simply concentrated on working up to a meal portion of 30 grams of protein from food before eating anything else (except for sauce and veggie stuff in a combo entree), then veggies, then a bit of whatever carb was around. The restriction kept my intake of carbs nice and low that way. So just how much carbohydrate intake works for you is individual. That being said, I think I'm seeing in your posts here that you are at risk of underestimating your actual carb intake. So I want to encourage you to take a couple of weeks or even longer to really track what you're putting in your mouth. Weigh and measure some if not most of your portions if you aren't doing that already, even if you are generally quite good at estimating those sizes. I just did a bit of this with my hubby, who is about to hit 200 lbs. for the first time in his life and so finally got motivated to learn a tiny bit about what he's eating. My portion estimator is very finely calibrated, having started learning how to do it when I was 7 (first time the *@&$*&@( doc put me on a low calorie diet), but I saw I was underestimating quantities on carby stuff. It's a great exercise for all of us to repeat once in a while. Mindfulness about intake is a HUGE tool for keeping accountable. Thanks, EN... always the good advisor. I was very closely tracking my food intake on all counts up until the holidays, then I stopped. I will take it up again to check and be cognizant of what I'm doing; continuing to focus on protein and fluids with the rest secondary. I do miss salads and am trying to incorporate some of that with my meals, i.e., taco salad consisting of a little fresh spinach (instead of lettuce), ground beef w/taco seasoning, cheese, onions, sour cream. A good meal, I think. It satisfies my salad craving.

I haven't found much that I can't eat, either, except for lactose and, now, it seems I have gas problems with white flour (which I don't eat much anyway... just been a few instances over the holidays). I tested my reaction last weekend and it was confirmed so, I have to stay away from that. Potatoes, which are a white starch, don't bother me. This isn't a big deal to me, just something to note.
So, plan for now to ensure I'm not getting too many carbs: food log. Also, I will be tracking protein, fluids, to ensure I'm getting enough.
I'm glad this post was helpful to many and it certainly has been for me. I still would like to hear/read what people's doctors say they should be eating. I have my 3-month labs and appt at the end of this month so I'll post the results of that when I get them.
One thing (off topic) I've noticed about this site vs OH, I don't see the ability to get notified when there are posts to something you posted or commented on. Anyone know if that's available or, am I just blind?
Thanks all!

How many carbs do folks aim for during the weight loss phase? I've seen 50 grams come up a lot. Would 100 be too many during the weight loss phase?

I dont count my carbs daily but the few times ive done a self check to make sure im eating what i think im eating i dont even get close to 50gms. I cant comment on how many gms you should eat a day but dont forget most high carb food will more than likely not agree with you. White flour makes me uncomfortable gassy followed by diarrhea so i dont eat it. So the only carbs i get in a day come from veggies or sauces which neither have a significant amount if you dont eat a ton of it:)

You wont screw it up, you will be so concerned about getting in your protein that all those delicious carbs really take a back seat. I too am afraid of failing and even tho i do eat a good bit i just dont have room for very many carbs. Altho i did have a Wendys burger today with 1/2 the bun. A rarity for me but so delicious! But now im paying with high force gas! Earlier i tooted while walking and i swear it propelled be a couple of feet!!! HAHA
