I just got off the phone with Determineddani's hubby. She's had four bags of fluids and been scanned, and that bit of fever with bellyache is an abscess. Staying in town for treatment is a last resort for them and the hospital folks where they are agree. The medical peeps are organizing a fixed-wing flight to Salt Lake City ASAP, which depends on plane and pilot availability and, to a greater degree, on weather. Things are loading up with ice in southwest MT tonight, making for lousy flying weather . Dani's condition is not yet dire as far as the local docs can tell, but she needs to be in a COE facility per their insurance, and the nearest one to them is SLC. This is good since it means she'll be right where her surgeon is. Doug has to arrange care for their dog who is fresh from knee surgery, so his mom is en route from a couple hours away to take care of the furkid. He is facing a crappy drive of several hundred miles in winter weather to follow his wife. Her mom is getting geared up to hop a plane at a moment's notice. It's all a little more complicated when you have to go a few hundred miles to get somewhere, but that's how distances are out that way . They're pumping her up on antibiotics but planning to defer further treatment to the folks in SLC. No clue yet what kind of treatment will be required. Doug will update whenever he knows more. He's a Montanan and a Marine , but he's one scared husband. Please send lots of love their way.

My sister (who lives not far by MT standards from them) just told me there were over 100 accidents in just a couple of hours because the ice is so bad. ACK . Pulling up their local news....

So sorry she and her family are going through all this - hopefully CT scan guided drainage of the abscess will do the trick. Thank you EN, and please keep us posted.

Thanks for the update. Medicine east of the Misssissippi is nothing like medicine in the states along the Rockies and on the Great Plains. (I learned that from working with all the hospitals in CO.) Being from MT and a Marine are good training for tough situations and I'll keep the whole family in my thoughts.

Doug just called again. Dani should be in the air within the hour. WHEW. He's not going to try to drive tonight, will plan on hitting the road first thing in the morning. Sounds like her mom is intending to drive rather than fly as well.

An abscess is very serious condition. One nearly killed me a couple of years before my DS. They wanted me to have my entire family and a clergy person called in at one point. I will be sending my best vibes to Dani and her family. Please keep us informed.

I will be praying for them. I'm sure her husband feels helpless and terrified. It sounds like she will be in good hands very shortly, though. Thank goodness she's getting to go to SLC.

My thoughts and prayers are with Dani and her husband plus swinging my cats for good measure. We lived in the Dakota's for years and healthcare is totally different and very weather sensitive.
