Pkt - I am not an avid coffee or tea drinker so not sure where I could add the coconut oil. Bacon, however, is another story. I am currently not eating any. In the morning I heat up a frozen egg dish and I am sure I could add some to that or make these bacon-wrapped hot dogs hehe. Also , I am not on magnesium. Perhaps this will help?

You are having reflux because YOU. ARE. HEALING. FROM. MAJOR. STOMACH. SURGERY. AND. YOUR. PARTS. ARE. INJURED. Now please, pretty please, go to your doctor and get better medicated for it.
And Stay. Off. The. Scale.

Listen to EN! Get some better medicine, what works for some may not work for others.
Our stomachs are still healing. Could be some of the things you are eating are causing some of your reflux problems. There will be time down the road for our bacon wrapped hot dogs, for now stick with the mild, easy to digest foods.

Indeed, that frozen egg dish might be a cause of your reflux. Bacon is probably a terrible idea right now. Hot dogs were clearly a terrible idea as well. MILDER protein rich foods.

As for the Coconut Oil, Try the Extra virgin Coconut Oil. Instead of processing with chemicals, the oil is centrifuged from the fresh coconut so it has a really nice coconut smell to it. It's great to cook with and tastes good enough I can actually eat it straight from the jar with no problem. It melts on your tongue like good butter. They sell a 78oz jar at Costco for about what you would pay for a couple pints at a health food store. I also order it by the gallon at Nutiva.com when they have specials and free shipping.

Sorry. I get excited about food, way too much lol. The PA from the surgeons office told me no food an hour before bed. (last night I had a "fat snack"as I like to call it and then went to bed right after eating it. doh! How do I forget these things? ) And she also told me to raise the bed 45 degrees, not just 1 or 2 flat books.

Insurance won't cover any more PPI meds so I may take a trip to the pharmacy later. PA is willing to call something in but going to try the not eating first since it costs $200 just to see if it will work.

I have had reflux pre and post D.S. in spite of daily Prilosec. The reflux was creeping into my lungs, while I slept, actually affecting my voice, people noticed. Now I sleep with 2 pillows, don't take any vitamins or especially iron/C close to bedtime. The iron is the most caustic, stripping the skin from the inside of my mouth, and tongue sores. No iron tabs Dr says, having iron injections next month. Medically necessary. ;-)

If you do coconut oil, start small and work your way up. I tried it at 3 TBS and I was going to just move into my bathroom for the rest of the year.
Mayo is good fat also. I like avocado, it works well, but I only need a a spoonful or two. So the rest of the avocado goes to waste.
Good ideas given here. Thanks.

Here's what I did in the beginning. Take some pats of really cold butter and smash in some finely ground nuts, splenda and cinnamon. Eat like candy. The butter needs to be really cold. You'll be amazed when you eat it. It doesn't taste like you’re eating butter; it really tastes like candy. I started making this one day when I was early out and constipated, like you. Everybody on the board was telling me to eat more butter but I just couldn't think of what I could put it on and get a whole lot of it, because that was how much I needed. LOL. I was at a point of being desperate, so I said to myself, "Ok, I am just going to eat plain old butter!" So I got it out of the fridge put it on a plate and cut it up into small chunks. Was about to eat it when the idea struck me, "Hey, this would be a bunch better with some nuts and sweetner." Bingo! It worked like a charm. I think when we are newbies, often it is just really hard to let go of the years of lo-fat dieting and realize that fat is our friend. I haven't had to make it recently because I don't have that problem any more.

I got some Prevacid to try tomorrow. Hopefully this will work. I used to take Walmart's Prilosec morning and nite and Walmart's Zantac in between the Prilosec doses.

Today I am going to try to snack on more peanut butter or something but it may prove tough as I got up late because I slept in way too late as I was up all night with the reflux from hell rearing its ugly face again. I woke up coughing from it, it was so bad and now my bronchioles are sore Peanut butter may be the culprit of your acid reflux....I can't eat much of it - especially in the evening or I'll be choking on acid during the night. Protein shakes in the evening will do the same thing to me. Hope you get this all figured out! Best of luck to you!

I have to not eat or take vitamins at least 2 hours before bed or I risk reflux at night. I've had 4 episodes, 2 really bad ones that left me with asthma like symptoms the next day. I've learned that tomato based stuff in the evening does it, and eating too close to bedtime. I've had my vites affect that also, but seems to be hit and miss on that. So far, I've been able to get thru it eating a few Tums 1000's.

I take propotonix it's a script and it works for me. Call your doc and get a script for the PPI. It sounds like it's time for a change.

Costco sells prevacid in a 3 pack (42 capsules) for $24ish... They now sell their own costco brand prevacid generic for around $14. This has saves me a ton of money since I take it every day.
Fat snack ideas: 1) Make cheese crisps (shred cheese, microwave on plate, it will melt and turn into a cheese crisp). There are youtube videos on it 2) Mock ricotta cheesecake filling: *full fat* ricotta cheese + splenda + vanilla + teeny pinch of finely grated lemon rind 3) Make your own pimento cheese (shredded sharp cheddar, mayo, cream cheese, salt & pepper, small amount of onion and garlic powder to taste, drained chopped pimento) and pile crackers HIGH with it. Don't buy store bought as it tastes like ass, just make your own. 4) Make a hot chocolate with half and half- use one spoon of PLAIN cocoa powder and DO NOT use hot chocolate mix. Just a spoon of cocoa powder and some splenda stirred in hot half and half... Buying cocoa mix is a waste of money, if you have cocoa powder you can make your own without the sugars and crappy additives. 5) Egg salad (boiled eggs, mayo, finely chopped celery and onion *if* your stomach can handle it, otherwise leave the veggies out). 6) Salmon salad (use leftover salmon from dinner or poach some) mash with mayo, chopped onion, capers, parsley and a little teeny bit of lemon juice 7) Guacamole (make your own!!! chop avocado, onion, cilantro, lime juice, salt- if your stomach can handle it add fresh garlic and finely diced tomato...
All of these are relatively easy to digest early post op. they're also easy to make.
