So I'm nearly 6 months out...and learning how unusual the DS is!
The weird things:
1) the SNEEZING! Why do I sneeze when I'm full? It's the oddest thing and I know I'm not the only one who does this!
2) it's been almost too easy to lose the weight. I can eat some carbs everyday and still am losing 10+ pounds a month. I keep waiting for it to slow down...now I'm panicking I'm gonna get TOO thin or not be able to stop losing.
3) people call me thin. I feel good but don't feel thin. I'm starting to get the whole 'you're going to be too thin/thinner than me/paper thin/blow away soon' comments all the time. I'm never prepared for them.
4) I still hate my vitamins but I take them everyday religiously unless I'm sick.
5) I still can't do protein shakes and constantly worry I'm gonna go bald (my hair went from SUPER thick to thin. Only my hairdresser has seemed to notice.
6) I constantly worry that I'm going to have health issues related to the malabsorption, even though I take vitamins. I wonder if that fear will ever go away?
7) I still get nausea on and off. It's annoying!
But it's been a wild journey I'd repeat again. I'm down 90 lbs with about 40 to go to get to 25 BMI. I'm not sure I'll get there or even care if I do.

Sneezing? You're right, that's weird!
It is easy to lose weight. The thing I like is when we are further out and gain a few pounds it's still easy to loose weight just by going back to the basics.
My wife was worried I would get too thin, you've seen me at Monarch meetings, I didn't.
Vitamins suck. But we need them so we take them.
My hair just thinned out. It filled back in well too.
That fear of health problems that keeps you taking your vitamins will also keep you getting your yearly labs done to find any problems before they get too big. You're Dexa scans too.
Nausea only when I eat the wrong foods, too much sugar mostly.
Sounds like you're totally normal for a DS person, or at least as normal as a DS person can claim to be. ;D

I'm not sure I'll get there or even care if I do. 1.You are sneezing because you've had too much to eat and it has irritated the vagus nerve. Perfectly normal. Eat more slowly so you don't overeat. 2. You are losing quickly because you are in the early part of your weight loss window. This WILL slow down. It is VERY rare for anyone to lose too much weight. Most people get to a low point and then bounce back up 10-15 pounds. It is not unusual to look a little haggard while your suddenly empty skin adjusts to the loss, but as long as you are at a normal BMI, you have nothing to worry about. 3. Ignore the comments or tell them that your weight loss is well within a normal range and you and your doctor are comfortable that you are losing correctly. 4. Taking vitamins sucks a whole lot less than being fat sucks. 5. I've never heard of someone going bald. Thinning hair is often the perfect time to discover a new, shorter layered look that will complement your weight loss better. 6. Why would you be worried? As long as you consistently take your vites, eat your protein, and have your labs checked there should be no surprises. 7. I am over five years out and I get nauseous daily if I haven't eaten often enough. My stomach was still very shaky only 6 months out. You're still healing. Why is this posted under "special interests"?If you have no reason, I am going to move it to the DS board.

I have no idea why it's posted in special interests, lol. Thanks for moving it!
So others get nausea too? I wasn't sure if it was just residual from my earlier complication or a sign I needed to eat. At 6 months out I hadn't figured it out yet!! It isn't daily or even weekly...I did start to notice that if I eat carby foods more, I feel nauseous later. I love that a little treat goes a long way now.
And I don't know why I'm worried-I just am! I am a worrier I guess! I definitely eat a lot of protein, focusing on that for all meals and snacks (I ATE SHRIMP COCKTAIIL FOR BREAKAST, lol), but worry since I'm not doing shakes it won't be enough.
And people aren't being mean or telling me I'm too thin-I know they mean well-but it's still weird. I didn't predict feeling that way. I kind of get defensive, or change the subject quickly. Today someone called me 'tiny'. What??? They must be BLIND!

When losing a lot of weight quickly, most people tend to look like they are losing from the top down (like a melting candle!) so that even though you may not have reached your goal weight your face and upper body may look rather gaunt giving the illusion that you have lost too much. Your weight will probably shift around eventually filling in the gaunt areas.

It is good to know my thoughts are normal. I worry about the same things. I can't do protein shakes either. I CAN do the syntrax nectars and drink at least one daily.
